E-1 Danke, Bruder Ruddell. Ich bin so froh zu wissen, einen geistlichen Sohn durch das Evangelium zu haben. Das ist sehr gut. Ja gewiß, ich schätze Bruder Ruddell. Ich glaube, Paulus hatte einen Sohn genannt Timotheus. Er nannte ihn seinen Sohn im Glauben.
Ich bin nicht sicher, ob das dort Flossy Ford ist. Ich erinnere mich, dass ich vor langer Zeit, als ich noch ein Junge war, mit ihrem Bruder Lloyd befreundet war. Damals backte sie gewöhnlich viel Kuchen, und wir kamen herein und aßen bis wir fast krank waren.
E-2 Ich erinnere mich an ein Mal, als Lloyd mich damals eingeladen hatte, und seine Schwester, die noch sehr jung war, hatte gebacken. Wir aßen solange wir konnten. Ich wollte den ganzen Abend mit Lloyd zusammen sein. Als es dann dunkel wurde, merkte ich, dass es Zeit war, nach Hause zu gehen. Ich rannte die Straße hinunter und fürchtete mich fast zu Tode auf dem Wege nach Hause.
Ich kann mich an ihren Vater erinnern. Deine Mutter lebt wohl noch? Das ist fein. Viel Wasser ist seit jenen Tagen den Fluß hinuntergeflossen. Jetzt sind wir beide Menschen mittleren Alters - Großeltern. Doch es gibt ein Land, in dem wir nicht alt werden. Ich bin so froh zu wissen, Flossy, dass auch du nach diesem Land Ausschau hältst und die Sicherheit hast, es zu finden.
Wie geht es Jim, deinem Mann? Ich kann mich sehr gut an ihn erinnern. Ich kenne auch einige der Kinder. Ungefähr zu der Zeit, als ich auf das Missionsfeld ging, heirateten sie Ihre Kinder sind seitdem groß geworden. Wir hatten den Kontakt mit einander ein wenig verloren.
Bruder Lloyd treffe ich ab und zu auf der Straße und wir rufen einander zu. Sie haben viele Mahlzeiten für mich gekocht und waren für mich wie Bruder und Schwester.
E-3 Ich bin so froh zu sehen, dass Bruder Ruddell's erstes Vorhaben war, ein Gästehaus zu einem Haus des Herrn zu machen. Das ist fein.
Ihr wißt, wenn man manchmal die Dinge ein wenig voraussehen kann, dann ist es gut. So konnten wir voraussehen, dass etwas in diesem scheuen Jungen war. Sein Vater und ich arbeiteten vor Jahren zusammen. Ich weiß, sein Vater packte zu und war ein Draufgänger. Warum sollte sein Sohn nicht auch so sein? Ich weiß, er hatte eine liebe Mutter. Er kam aus der richtigen Linie, also musste etwas Gutes in ihm sein und ein Verlangen in seinem Herzen, dem Herrn zu dienen. Wenn die Tiefe der Tiefe zuruft, dann muss es eine Antwort auf den Ruf geben. Ich bin so froh zu sehen, dass Bruder Ruddell vorwärts geht.
E-4 Diese wunderbare Gruppe von Menschen! Es ist für mich heute Abend ein großes Vorrecht, zu dieser Gruppe von Heiligen zu sprechen, die hier einhergehen. Dieses ist nicht unsere bleibende Stätte; das wißt ihr. Wir sind Pilger, wir sind hier nicht zu Hause.
Ich kann mich auch daran erinnern, wie du, Schwester Ruddell, mit ihm gekommen bist und dort gesessen hast. Er hielt sein Haupt gebeugt, und du warst sehr selbstsicher. Sie glaubte daran, dass er das Evangelium predigen würde. Mit einer solch guten Frau und betenden Eltern musste etwas geschehen, Bruder Ruddell, und es geschah. Ich bete, Bruder Ruddell, dass dieses nur ein Ausgangspunkt für dich ist, von dem aus du dich zu den höchsten Höhen der Herrlichkeit des Evangeliums emporschwingen kannst.
E-5 Ich weiß, dass Bruder und Schwester Max Ruddell heute Abend sehr glücklich darüber wäre. Wie gern würde ich Billy Paul auf die Kanzel sehe. Ich hoffe, Joseph eines Tages auf dem Kanzel stehen zu sehen. Das wäre schön.
Alle Schwierigkeiten, die wir beim Erziehen unserer Kinder, besonders der Jugendlichen, hatten, wären dann belohnt Ihr schaut zurück und seht das Grau in dem Haar eures Vaters und denkt daran, dass einige eurer verkehrten Handlungen sie verursacht haben. Das stimmt.
E-6 Es ist gut, hier zu sein. Ich bin ein wenig heiser. Bruder Gene Goad und ich unternahmen gestern eine kleine Reise und gingen hinunter, um zu angeln. Die Fische haben angebissen. Wir hatten eine gute Zeit und sind spät nach Hause gekommen. Wir sind auf das Wasser hinausgefahren, und ich habe mich ein wenig erkältet. Doch ich hoffe, dass ihr mich erträgt.
Wir machen uns bereit für einen Sommerfeldzug, der neunzig Tage lang dauern soll. Wir hoffen, Ende August oder Anfang September zurück zu sein. In dieser Woche beginne ich in Green Bay, Michigan, danach bin ich am Sonntagnachmittag in Chicago zu einer Konferenz in der Hochschule. In Green Bay werde ich auf der Konferenz der Christlichen Geschäftsleute sprechen. Von dort gehe ich nach Chicago zu einer missionarischen Veranstaltung mit Bruder Joseph Boze. Von dort nach Southern Pines und dann zum Cow Palace in South Gate, Los Angeles. Etwa vierzig Gemeinden, die an die Einheit Gottes glauben, unterstützen die Versammlungen. Es geschieht zum ersten Mal, dass sie meine Versammlung unterstützen.
Von Kalifornien geht es nach Oregon und dann nach Kanada, weiter nach Anchorage, Alaska. Im Herbst komme ich zurück. Bruder Joseph Boze geht nach Kenia, Tansania und Südafrika, um Versammlungen für den Herbst anzuberaumen.
Wenn ich sagen sollte, dass ich mich geleitet fühle, zu diesen Orten zu gehen, so ist dem nicht so. Doch empfinde ich, dass man den Samen ausstreuen muss, und deshalb tue ich im Reiche Gottes, was ich kann.
E-7 Laßt uns jetzt die Häupter noch einmal zum Gebet beugen. Nicht, weil wir noch nicht gebetet hätten, doch ich möchte den Herrn darum bitten, mir zu helfen und mir die rechten Worte für euch zu schenken.
Unser himmlischer Vater, wir nahen uns jetzt Deinem Gnadenthron im Namen des Herrn Jesus, der uns den Zugang gewährt, uns zu kommen bat und verheißen hat, uns die Dinge zu schenken, um die wir bitten. Wir bitten nicht darum, in Deinem Gericht zu erscheinen, sondern kommen vor Deinen Gnadenstuhl, damit uns Barmherzigkeit zuteil wird. Wir bekennen, dass wir verkehrt sind und nichts Gesundes in uns ist. Doch wir bringen uns selber dar, Herr. Nichts können wir Dir geben. Wir kommen im Gebet zu Dir mit der Verheißung unseres Herrn Jesus: „Wer Mein Wort hört und an Den glaubt, der Mich gesandt hat, hat das ewige Leben und kommt nicht in das Gericht, sondern ist vom Tode in das Leben hinübergegangen.” Wir glauben das.
E-8 ER hat uns gesagt, dass wir kommen sollen, und was wir in Seinem Namen bitten, das wird uns zuteil. Wir glauben das. Aufgrund unseres Glaubens kommen wir und bitten, dass Du diese Gemeinde und den geliebten Bruder Ruddell und seine Familie und alle Familien, die hier repräsentiert sind, segnest.
Ich sah Mrs. Morris und dachte an all die Tage, die vorüber gegangen sind. O Gott, wie ich ihr sagte, viel Wasser ist den Fluß hinuntergeflossen und viele Mühen, Gefahren und Fallen liegen hinter uns. Du hast uns bereits hindurchgebracht, Herr, und unser Vertrauen ruht in Dir, dass wir bis zum Ende des Weges mit Dir gehen werden.
Segne diesen Ort. Bringe Du Deinen Namen hier an und schenke ihnen das Beste, das Du diesem Orte zugedacht hast. Mögest Du, wie der Bruder heute Abend betete, alles Übel und alle Hindernisse hinwegnehmen. Gewähre es, Herr, und beantworte sein Gebet.
Heile die Kranken unter uns. Schenke denen das Heil, die da hungern und dürsten nach Gerechtigkeit. Herr, heilige jetzt die Stimme und das Tun Deines unnützen Knechtes. Segne Dein Wort, und möge es nicht leer zurückkommen. Möge es das ausrichten, wozu es gesandt wurde. Möge der Heilige Geist Heute Abend durch die Dinge Gottes die Herzen ermutigen, vom Größten bis zum Kleinsten. Wir bitten es im Namen Jesu Christi. Amen.
E-9 Heute Morgen habe ich lange gepredigt. Ich weiß nicht, ob man es predigen nennen kann. Ich habe nur wie in einer Sonntagsschule gelehrt. Einmal tat ich es sechs Stunden lang. Aber heute Abend wird es nicht so schlimm sein, dessen bin ich gewiß.
Ich möchte zu meinem Text ein Schriftwort lesen, denn ich weiß, dass Seine Worte nie versagen werden. Meine können versagen. Deshalb möchte ich mein Wort in Einklang mit Seinem Wort bringen und durch meine Worte einen Zusammenhang zu Seinem Wort herstellen, das wir als Text nahmen.
E-10 Heute Abend möchte ich zwei Stellen lesen: aus Sprüche 18, 10 und aus Jesaja 32, 2. Zuerst Sprüche 18, 10:
Der Name des HERRN ist ein festes Schloß; der Gerechte läuft dahin und wird beschirmt.
Nun zu Jesaja 32, 1-2:
Siehe, es wird ein König regieren, Gerechtigkeit anzurichten, und Fürsten werden herrschen, das Recht zu handhaben,
daß ein jeglicher unter ihnen sein wird wie eine Zuflucht vor dem Wind und wie ein Schirm vor dem Platzregen, wie die Wasserbäche am dürren Ort, wie der Schatten eines großen Felsen im trockenen Lande.
E-11 Was den Text betrifft, so soll mein Thema sein: Ablassen des Drucks. Das ist ein eigenartiger Text: Ablassen des Drucks. Ich habe ihn gewählt, weil ich die Not der Leute sehe. Ehe ich zu einer Versammlung komme, suche ich den Herrn im Gebet, damit wenn ich dann vor einer Versammlung stehe, sie sei klein oder groß, ob ich vor einem oder einer Million stehe, nicht ich gesehen oder gehört werde, sondern der Herr verherrlicht wird.
Ich komme nicht hierher um gehört zu werden, denn an mir ist nichts. Ich habe eine schlechte Stimme, bin ein ungeschulter Mann, verbleibe nicht bei meinem Text, sondern springe überall hin vom 1. Moses bis hin zur Offenbarung. Ich bin kein geschickter Redner, doch ich liebe den Herrn. Ich kann Christus nicht lieben, es sei denn, ich liebe zuerst Sein Volk. Ich muss Sein Volk lieben. Wenn ich Sein Volk liebe, dann liebe ich auch Ihn.
E-12 Ich möchte das tun, was ER tat. Ich möchte, dass meine Handlungsweise mit der Seinen übereinstimmt, immer versuchen, das Gute zu tun und jemandem zu helfen.
Und zu sehen, diesen Tag in der wir leben, und zu wissen, dass diese Gemeinde hat hier eine großartige Pfarrer...
Das was ich jetzt sage, sage ich nicht um zu schmeicheln, sondern von Herzen. Wenn ich etwas anderes sagen würde, wäre ich ein Heuchler. Ich glaube, dass diese Gemeinde einen Pastor hat, der für die Wahrheit einsteht, ganz gleich was kommt oder geht. Das glaube ich. Solch ein Vertrauen habe ich zu meinem Sohn. Er ist so furchtlos wie er nur sein kann. Ich glaube, er ist ein tadelloser, geheiligter Mann, von Gott mit einem Dienst für diese letzten Tage gesandt. Er predigt das gleiche Wort wie ich, und zwar von 1. Moses bis hin zur Offenbarung, wie es geschrieben steht. Das gefällt mir. Kein Kompromisseschließen, sondern ein Verbleiben auf dem Worte. Das mag ich.
E-13 Dann dachte ich, ein solcher Mann - und ich soll auf das Kanzel? Er ist noch jung, was könnte ich sagen, das seiner Versammlung helfen würde. Denn deshalb wollte er, dass ich komme. Er ist ein Hirte, er gibt Acht auf seine Schafe. Vielleicht hat er jetzt gedacht, dass eine Abwechslung seinen Menschen helfen kann. Er ist an euch interessiert, an eurem Wohlergehen. Tag und Nacht ist er bereit, wohin er auch gerufen wird, zu gehen, alles zu tun, was er kann, um zu helfen. Das ist ein echter Knecht Gottes.
E-14 Wiederholt bat er mich, zu kommen. Ich liebe ihn umso mehr, weil er mich immer wieder bat zu kommen, denn darin bringt er sein Vertrauen zum Ausdruck. Er würde mich nicht vor seine Schafe stellen, wenn er glaubte, dass ich ihnen schaden würde. Kein Hirte würde das tun. Er weiß, dass ich das Richtige tun würde und er erweist mir eine große Ehre, wenn er mich bittet, zu kommen. Seine Einstellung ist gut. Er hält fest, bis es geschieht. Das ist ein Mann des Glaubens. Das mag ich.
Ich dachte, was werde ich der Versammlung sagen? Ohne Zweifel sind sie ja in allem unterrichtet. Doch in dieser Zeit ist ein Druck auf den Menschen. Dieser Druck kennt keine Grenzen, nicht die der Denominationen noch des Zeitalters, und übt kein Ansehen der Person. Jung und alt, gut und schlecht, auf Allen ist der Druck.
E-15 Wir leben in einem neurotischen Zeitalter, unter nervöser Spannung. Jeder rast nach hier oder dort und kommt nirgends hin. Das ist die Prägung dieses Zeitalters. Ich weiß, diese Gemeinde wird genauso damit geplagt wie jede andere. In unserer Gemeinde werden wir geplagt und überall in der ganzen Welt ist es so.
Es ist ein Tag des Druckes. Alles geschieht in Eile - must eimer Hasten, Hasten, Hasten, Hasten, und Warten. Man fährt neunzig Meilen die Stunde, um den wieder zum Abendbrot nach Hause zu kommen, und dann muss man zwei Stunden warten, bis es fertig ist. Das stimmt. Es ist diese Zeit. In der Hast und Eile geratet ihr in eine nervöse Spannung. Wenn die Frau ein wenig widerspricht, braust ihr auf im Zorn. Der Mann sagt etwas, ihr stampft mit dem Fuß und sagt ihm, dass er aus dem Raum gehen soll. „Mann, ich möchte jetzt keine Auseinandersetzung mit dir, gehe hinaus.”
„Frau, oh, ich bin so nervös.” Warum? Weshalb, was ist los?
E-16 All dies ist eine Stauung von Druck, und die Resultate sind verkehrtes Tun und Handeln. Das stimmt. Es verursacht, dass Arme, die der mittleren Klasse und auch die Reichen so handeln. Es verursacht, dass die, die verkehrten Sinnes sind, und auch die guten Menschen so handeln, denn es ist ein Druck, der ausgeübt wird. Der Dampf muss irgendwo herausgelassen werden. Wenn das nicht geschieht, so explodiert der Kessel.
Wir stellen das fest. Es staut sich immer mehr an während des Tages. Ihr sprecht mit eurem Chef bei der Arbeit über dieses oder jenes. Und wenn ihr zu den Kindern sprecht: „Kommt hierher!”, dann sagen sie: „Mama, ich bin...” So ist es. Es wird aufgestaut. Manchmal fühlt ihr, als ob ihr den Kopf verliert. Ich kenne das, damit bin ich jeden Tag vertraut. Ich weiß, was das bedeutet. Es wird aufgebaut.
E-17 Ich war... Vor einigen Abenden dachte ich daran. Ich ging in ein Krankenhaus. Ich meinte, unser Pastor war krank, doch er war nur körperlich heruntergekommen. Es war ein Hin-und-Her-eilen bis er völlig erschöpft war. Man rief mich im Büro an und fragte, ob ich seine Besuche abstatten könnte. Ich war den ganzen Tag zu Verhandlungen unterwegs mit Predigern aus verschiedenen Orten, und ich sagte zu.
Ich machte alle seine Besuche und ging dabei in ein gewisses Krankenhaus. Man gab mir den Namen einer Frau und ihre Zimmernummer. Ich ging ungefähr fünfzehn bis zwanzig Minuten vor der Besuchszeit hin und erkundigte mich nach der Frau. Ich sagte, dass ich ein Prediger wäre und eine gewisse Frau besuchen möchte. Die Dame war mit etwas beschäftigt. Sie schaute mir ins Gesicht und fragte: „Was wollen Sie?”
Ich erwiderte: „Ich möchte erfahren, wo sich eine gewisse Frau auf dieser Station befindet.”
Sie sagte: „Ich weiß es nicht!”
Ich sagte: „Mir wurde diese Nummer gegeben, doch wollte ich mich zuerst erkundigen.”
Sie erwiderte: „Wenn Sie die Nummer haben, so gehen Sie doch hin.”
Ich dankte, ging hin zu dem Zimmer und fragte: „Befindet sich hier eine Frau mit diesem Namen?”
„Nein!”
Ich ging zurück und schaute auf das Blatt, und es war dort so angegeben. Als ich zurückkam, stand die Frau dort und ich sagte: „Das ist die verkehrte Nummer.”
„Wie hieß die Frau?” Sie sagte: „Sie befindet sich nicht auf dieser Etage.”
„Danke! Ich werde hinaufgehen.”
E-18 Ich ging auf die nächste Zimmer und sah dort einen Arzt am Schreibtisch sitzen. Ich sagte: „Wie geht es Ihnen?” Er blickte nur auf und wieder herunter, so dachte ich: „Den muss ich in Ruhe lassen.” Ich ging ein wenig weiter und fand eine Dame, eine Krankenschwester. Ich sagte: „Verzeihung!”
Sie sagte: „Was wollen Sie?”
Ich antwortete: „Befindet sich eine gewisse Frau mit diesem Namen hier?”
Sie sagte: „Ich weiß es nicht.” Und ich sagte... Sie sagte...
„Es müßte Zimmer Nummer 321 oder 221 sein. Bei 221 war ich schon, und sie befand sich nicht dort.”
Und die Dame sagte: „Es ist niemand hier unten unter diesem Namen”, so sagte: „Vielleicht sie ist im Obergeschoß.” Und sie sagte: „Weshalb gehen Sie dann nicht nach 321?”
Ich sagte: „Danke!”
Ich ging auf 321... oder 321, und ich sagte: „Gibt es eine Dame im hier genannten So-und-so?”
„Nein!”
Eine Frau aus dem gegenüberliegenden Zimmer sagte: „Sie befand sich dort in Nummer… 31.”
Ich sagte: „Ich danke Ihnen, meine Dame.” Ich ging; Ich sagte: „Ist Frau So-und-so hier?”
„Nein, zogen sie sie aus; sie ist im Erdgeschoß.”
E-19 Ich dachte: „Meine Zeit!” Ich ging wieder hinunter, und man gab mir die Zimmernummer. Ich traute Mich nicht, wieder zu fragen, deshalb ging ich überall hin und suchte das Zimmer, konnte es aber nicht finden.
In diesem Krankenhaus war alles so verzwickt. Ein Arzt kam daher mit einer Tasche und einem Stethoskop in seiner Hand. Ich habe nie zuvor einen Mann gesehen, der vier Fuß groß und vier Fußbreit war. Er kam daher, und ich sagte: „Guten Abend! Können Sie mir sagen, wo sich Zimmer So-und-so befindet?”
Er sagte: „Hier und dann dort entlang.”
Ich erwiderte: „Danke für die Information.”
Das ist die Wahrheit. Er sagte: „Hier entlang und dann dort hinaus.”
Ich sagte: „Danke!” und dachte: „Bis jetzt bin ich noch nicht weiter gekommen.”
E-20 Ich schaute zurück, und dort war eine nett aussehende Dame hinter dem Schreibtisch. Ich ging zu ihr hin und sagte: „Guten Abend!”
Sie entgegnete: „Wie geht es Ihnen?”
Ich sagte: „Ich bin völlig durcheinander” und erzählte ihr meine Geschichte und sagte: „Irgendwo befindet sich eine Frau, die morgen operiert werden soll, und sie ist dem Tode nahe. Ich bin ein Prediger, und da unser Pastor keinen Besuch abstatten konnte, gab man mir diese Nummer.”
Sie sagte: „Einen Moment, Bruder Branham, ich werde sie finden.”
„Nun,” denke ich... „Danke, Herr.”
Sie legte alles beiseite und ging hinüber. Dann sagte sie: „Ja, Bruder Branham, sie befindet sich dort zu deiner Linken, gerade dort,”
Ich sagte: „Vielen Dank!” Ich wandte Mich um und dachte: „So ist es, den Dampf ablassen.”
E-21 Jeder... Alles entwickelt sich zu diesem neurotischen Zeitalter. In jedem hat sich etwas angestaut. Niemand hat Zeit. Das staut sich so lange, bis etwas zusammenbricht. Es verursacht, dass Menschen gegeneinander aufgebracht sind und Dinge sagen, die sie nicht meinen.
Ein jeder ist schuldig. Ich bin schuldig, ihr alle seid dessen schuldig. Wir tun Dinge unter einem Druck, die wir sonst nicht tun würden. Ein überschüssiger Druck hat sich angestaut. Ehe ich weiter gehe, möchte ich sagen, dass ich glaube, dass es der Feind ist, der diesen Druck verursacht. Ich glaube, dass es der Teufel ist.
Wir wissen, dass das Kommen des Herrn nahe ist, und die Bibel sagt, dass der Teufel in den letzten Tagen herumgeht wie ein brüllender Löwe. Wenn er euch unter diesen Druck bekommt, eilt ihr hin und her und trefft Entscheidungen, die ihr nicht treffen würdet, wenn ihr euch hinsetzen und über die Dinge nachdenken würdet.
E-22 Vor ungefähr drei Jahren ging ich jagen und hatte einen Indianer als Führer. Ich beeile mich sehr beim Jagen, das ist meine Natur. Auch dadurch wird ein Druck angestaut.
Ich war auf der Jagd mit dem Indianer und sprang vom Pferd. Es waren Hirsche auf dem Gebirge, und ich eilte um die Kurve. Der alte Indianer war ungefähr zehn Jahre älter als ich. Er kam keuchend hinter mir her, und ich rief: „Komm, Häuptling, komm!”
Er sagte: „Zu schnell, zu schnell.”
Ich dachte: “Oh, gut ...” Ich sagte: “Komm schon!”
Ich lief weiter, und wieder sagte er: „Zu schnell.” Ich schaltete einen Gang herunter, und doch sagte er: „Zu schnell.” Ich ging langsam, doch es war ihm immer noch zu schnell.
Ich sagte: „Häuptling, dort oben ist doch der Hirsch.”
Er sagte: „Er bleibt dort, er ist dort geboren.”
Ich erwiderte: „Da hast du wohl recht.”
„Er bleibt dort, weil er dort geboren ist! Prediger jagen zu schnell und verscheuchen das Wild. Mach es wie die Indianer: einen Schritt gehen, neunmal umsehen.”
E-23 Ich fragte mich, welch einen Gang ich einschalten müßte, um von dort herunter zu kommen Ich war auf dem Pfad, der zum Berge hinaufführte, und er sagte: „Einen Schritt gehen, neunmal umsehen.” Alle immer wieder neunmal ansehen, ehe man einen nächsten Schritt macht. Doch seht, er hatte keine Eile.
Ich dachte darüber nach. Und meine geliebte alte Mutter, sie ist heute in der Herrlichkeit. Als sie starb, fragte man mich: „Warum trägst du heute keine weiße Blume, als Zeichen, dass deine Mutter tot ist?”
Ich erwiderte: „Meine Mutter ist nicht tot, meine Mutter lebt.” Ich trug eine rote Blume und die Menschen sagten: „Ich dachte, deine Mutter ist gestorben.” Um sie von der Verwirrung fernzuhalten und nicht noch mehr Dampf anzusammeln, habe ich gar keine mehr getragen. Sie ist nicht rot, sie schläft nur. Sie ist bei Christus.
E-24 Oh dieses nervöse, neurotische Zeitalter, in dem wir leben Ihr wißt, für all dieses haben die Ärzte keine Antwort, denn auch sie werden damit geplagt. Man kann keine Antwort von ihnen erwarten, sie selbst wissen nicht, was zu tun sei.
Ihr sagt: „Herr Doktor, ich bin drauf und dran mir das Leben zu nehmen. Ich weiß nicht was ich tun soll.”
Er könnte sagen: „Mir geht es genauso.” Es gibt nichts, was ihr tun könntet. Er verschreibt euch eine Beruhigungstablette, und wenn die Wirkung vorüber ist, seid ihr nervöser als ihr vorher wart. Es ist so, als wem ein Betrunkener noch mehr trinkt, um aus der Trunkenheit herauszukommen. Seht, ihr könnt es nicht. Es gibt keine Antwort. Die Ärzte haben sie nicht.
Doch Gott hat die Antwort Daran wollen wir uns halten, darüber wollen wir sprechen Sie haben keine Antwort Gott hat die Antwort ER ist die Antwort. Christus ist die Antwort auf jedes Problem, das ihr habt.
E-25 Über Ihn werden wir jetzt sprechen. Im Alten Testament war jemand unter Druck, wenn er etwas Verkehrtes getan hatte, zum Beispiel wenn er unschuldiges Blut vergossen hatte und sich auf der Flucht befand. Wenn ein Mann einen anderen getötet und verkehrt gehandelt hatte, suchte man ihn unter den Menschen, bis er gefunden wurde. Dann wurde er getötet Zahn um Zahn, Auge um Auge. Ein solcher Mensch hatte keinen Ort, an dem er sich aufhalten konnte.
Wenn jemand ungewollt etwas getan hatte und man ihm nicht glaubte, so musste er fliehen, denn die Verwandten dieses Mannes oder der Frau, wer immer es war, suchten ihn. Und wenn sie ihn gefunden hatten, so hieß es: Auge um Auge, Zahn um Zahn. Das war ihre Lebensweise.
E-26 Er konnte sich nirgends aufhalten, denn er war ein Flüchtling. Er wußte nicht, was er tun sollte, denn er war auf der Flucht. Das ist typisch für die heutige Zeit. Ich meine, das verursacht solch einen Druck, denn wir sind auf der Flucht. Das ist die heutige Verfassung der Welt. Wir wissen, dass sie verkehrt sind und dass das Kommen des Herrn so nahe ist, und der Druck staut sich immer noch mehr. Sie sind auf der Flucht, stürzen sich in jede Art von Vergnügen, um Dampf abzulassen. Sie sehen fern, erzählen schmutzige Witze, suchen irgendetwas, wodurch sie Druck ablassen können. Sie sind auf der Flucht. Etwas ist im Begriff zu geschehen. Sie wissen es. Sie trinken sich selbst zu Tode und stürzen sich ins Vergnügen, sie sind auf der Flucht.
Sie wissen, dass etwas geschehen wird. Die Welt spricht davon. Wir wissen, dass etwas im Geschehen ist. Diese Welt könnte vor Tagesanbruch explodiert sein. Jede Nation ist in Spannung. Warum?
E-27 Als ich in Afrika war, habe ich die Schafherde beobachtet. Es war ein mittelgroßes Lamm, das sehr friedlich für sich weidete, und plötzlich wurde es unruhig. Es fraß und schaute wiederholt umher. Als es noch friedlich war, beobachtete ich es. Es sah so ruhig aus. Ich dachte: „Ist das dort nicht friedlich? Schaut euch dieses kleine Ding an.” Der Hirte, ein Eingeborener, der sie zu bewachen hatte, befand sich in der Umzäunung.
Während ich dieses kleine Lamm beobachtete, wurde es nervös, und ich dachte: „Was ist mit ihm los?” Ich beobachtete es durch ein Fernglas. Es wurde so nervös, es schaute hier- und dorthin. Es begann zu blöken; es wußte nicht, was es tun sollte. Und ich dachte: „Weshalb ist dieses kleine Lamm plötzlich so aufgeregt?
E-28 Es befand sich auf einer kleinen Weide. Doch in der Ferne bemerkte ich, dass sich etwas erhob und wieder niederließ. Ungefähr eine halbe Meile von ihm entfernt, versteckt im Gras, schlich sich ein Löwe an. Und etwas in diesem kleinen Lamm staute sich, und es wußte, dass sich irgendein Unheil nahte. Es konnte nichts sehen. Der Löwe hatte das Schaf gerochen und wollte es schnell holen, ehe der Hirte es bergen konnte.
Ich sah zu, wie der Druck sich in ihm staute. In der Ferne schlich sich der Löwe heran. Obwohl das Schaf den Löwen nicht sehen konnte, so war etwas in ihm, das ihm sagte, dass sich ein Unheil nahte.
So ist es heute. Etwas in den Menschen läßt es sie wissen, dass etwas im Geschehen ist. Das wissen wir. Die Gläubigen wissen das. Die Welt weiß es. Der Trunkenbold weiß es und auch der Spieler. Der Geschäftsmann, die Regierungen, die UN, sie alle wissen, dass bald etwas geschehen wird. Der Druck hat sich angestaut.
E-29 Frauen, Mütter rauchen eine Zigarette nach der anderen. Ich sehe sie, wenn sie zur Schule kommen. Sie fahren vorbei, während ich auf meine Kinder und den Hund achtgebe. Sie fahren siebzig Meilen die Stunde in einer Zwanzig-Meilen-Zone. Während die Frauen ihre Kinder zur Schule bringen, haben sie eine Zigarette in der Hand, schreien die Kinder an und müssen so scharf bremsen, dass es quietscht. Dann kommen sie zurück. Vor kurzem beobachtete ich, wie eine neurotische Mutter daherkam, und vier oder fünf kleine Kinder mussten in Eile die Straße räumen. Wo wollte sie hin? Was ist los? Vielleicht wollte sie unbedingt ein Fernsehprogramm sehen.
So ist es. Druck! Es wird durch irgendetwas verursacht. Früher taten sie so etwas nicht. Etwas naht sich - Tod und Zusammenbruch nahen. Sie sind nicht mehr weit entfernt. Etwas kommt auf uns zu.
E-30 Im Alten Testament hatte Gott Vorsehung getroffen, wenn Dinge ungewollt geschahen. Wenn ihr unschuldig seid, wird Gott euch einen Weg bahnen.
Wenn ein Mann einen anderen mutwillig getötet hatte, war er verloren. Er konnte nicht in den Ort hinein Doch wenn es ein Unfall war, der ihm ungewollt unterlaufen war, so gab es für ihn eine Zufluchtsstätte. Eine von ihnen war Ramoth-Gilead. Ich glaube, es waren ihrer [sechs], die Josua als Zufluchtsstädte errichtet hatte.
Zu diesen Städten konnten die Menschen Zuflucht nehmen. Wenn sie versehentlich etwas Verkehrtes getan hatten, begaben sie sich zu einer dieser Freistädte und erschienen an der Pforte. Der Pförtner fragte den Betreffenden, weshalb er kommt und was er getan hat. Dann wurde die Verhandlung einberufen. Wenn die Gerichtsverhandlung vor dem Stadttor stattfand und der Betreffende als unschuldig erfunden wurde, weil er die Tat nicht absichtlich getan hatte, dann wurde der Mensch in die Stadt, den Ort der Zuflucht, eingelassen. Dann konnte der Feind ihn nicht erreichen. Wenn er gelogen und verkehrt gehandelt hatte und in die Freistadt kam, selbst wenn er die Hörner des Altars ergriff, so hatte sein Feind das Recht, ihn vom Altar wegzuziehen und ihn zu töten. Jawohl! Weil, er schuldig war, er hatte vorsätzlich gehandelt und musste bestraft werden.
E-31 Die ganze Sache belastete den Betreffenden. Natürlich war ein solcher Mensch nervös. Vielleicht waren ein Dutzend Männer hinter ihm her. Hinter jedem Felsen, jedem Berg, jedem Busch konnte sich der Feind verbergen und auf ihn warten. Er war nervös. Doch wenn er die Stadt erreichte, war er von dem Druck befreit. Er war in Sicherheit. Jetzt war er geborgen, weil er den für ihn vorbereitete Ort gefunden hatte. Gottes vorbereitete Weg sieht vor, dass der Unschuldige nicht erschlagen, sondern vom Tode befreit wird, denn er hat es versehentlich getan, er wollte es nicht.
Nun, wenn er hatte nicht die Absicht, es zu tun... Wenn er es vorsätzlich getan hatte, musste er die Folgen tragen. Es bestand keine Chance für ihn, wenn er es absichtlich getan hatte.
E-32 Es gibt zwei Gruppen von Menschen heute, wenn ich dieses sagen darf. Bruder Ruddell, das wirklich nicht wollen, um diese Dinge zu tun, dass sie tun. Es sind Männer und Frauen heute in der Welt, die nicht sündigen möchten. Sie tun mir leid. Sie möchten nichts Verkehrtes tun, doch sie tun es. Sie werden dazu getrieben. Es gibt einen Ort für diejenigen, die das Rechte tun möchten. Es gibt einen Ort, von dem Druck befreit zu werden. Das ist wahr. Aber es gibt einige, die kein Interesse daran haben.
E-33 Vor einigen Tagen überreichte Bruder Hickerson mir einen Pass, damit ich das Staatsgefängnis in La Grande, Kentucky betreten konnte. Ich wollte dort angeln Dort traf ich einen Negerjungen aus Louisville, mit dem ich ins Gespräch kam. Ich fragte ihn: „Was tut denn ein so fein aussehender, intelligenter Mann wie Sie hier?”
Er antwortete: „Prediger, so und so ist es gewesen. Niemand ist schuldig, nur ich. Ich gehörte einst dem Herrn an.” Er heißt, Bischof. „Sie nannten mich heiliger Bischof, weil ich dem Herrn diente. Meine Frau und ich haben ein Mädchen. Doch eines Tages konnte ich es nicht mehr ertragen, wandte mich vom Herrn ab und ging in die Welt Ich hatte einen gläubigen Vater und eine gläubige Mutter. Doch dann wurde ich nach Übersee nach Korea versetzt.” Er erzählte von den Schlachten, die er mitgemacht hatte und was ihm alles begegnet war. Er meinte: „Dort gingen wir zum Tanzen usw.”
E-34 „Ich kam in verkehrte Gesellschaft. Eines Tages kamen zwei Jungens vorbei und sagten: ‚Bischof, wir möchten Lebensmittel einkaufen. Würdest du uns dort hinfahren?' Meine Frau hatte mich gerade zum Essen gerufen. Sie redete auf mich ein und sagte: ‚Liebling, gehe nicht mit ihnen. Es ist nichts Gutes in diesen Kerlen. Wir müssen uns von ihnen entfernen und zur Gemeinde zurückgehen.' Da erwiderte ich: ‚Ich möchte es nicht tun, aber diese Jungens müssen einkaufen. Es ist mir unangenehm, wenn ich sie nicht hinbringen kann.' Ich wollte ihnen mein Auto überlassen. Sie sagte: ‚Tue es nicht, denn sie werden es ruinieren. Fahre sie hin und komme zurück.'”
Ich sagte: „Ich brachte sie hin und blieb auf dem Parkplatz. Dort saß ich und wartete. Plötzlich ging der Alarm los und diese Jungens kamen daher, jeder mit einer Pistole in seiner Hand. Ich machte die Tür zu und sagte: ‚Ihr könnt nicht hereinkommen.'”
Einer von ihnen schlug mir auf den Kopf, riß mich hoch, schwang die Pistole und sagte: „Du willst uns nicht fahren?” Er hob die Pistole und sprach: „Wenn du nicht durchlöchert werden willst, dann tu was wir dir sagen, sonst werfen wir dich hinaus und fahren selbst.”
E-35 Ich antwortete: „Ihr könnt nirgends hin. Man wird euch fassen. Sagt ihnen, dass ich nichts damit zu tun habe, dass ich unschuldig bin.” Gleich darauf hatte die Polizei sie gefaßt.
Bei der Vernehmung wurde ich von dem Staatsanwalt, über den ich böse dachte, gefragt: „Ist dies dein Auto?”
Ich antwortete: ‚Jawohl, aber ich...“
Er sagte: „Beantworte mir die Frage.” O Bruder, der Teufel hat eine Art, die Dinge zu tun. Er sagte: „Beantworte meine Frage. Ist dies dein Auto?”
Ich antwortete: „Jawohl.”
„Ist dies dein Nummernschild?”
„Jawohl, mein Herr!”
Er fragte: „Warst du dort auf dem Parkplatz?”
Ich sagte: „Nun, ich sage euch...”
Er wiederholte: „Beantworte nur meine Fragen!”
Darauf sagte ich: „Jawohl!”
Dann sprach er: „Da hast du's!” Aufgrund dieser Verhandlung, da die Umstände scheinbar den Beweis erbrachten, wurde er zu zehn Jahren verurteilt, die anderen erhielten lebenslänglich.
Er sagte: „Schau Bruder, ich bin in verkehrte Gesellschaft geraten. Niemand trägt die Schuld als ich.” So ist es. Jetzt hat er zehn Jahre, um von dem Druck befreit zu werden. Ich betete für ihn. Bruder Wood und ich saßen dort am Wasser, nahmen den Jungen bei der Hand und beteten dort am Gewässer für ihn, dass er auf Bewährung freigelassen würde. Ich bete noch immer für ihn, dass Gott es tut.
E-36 Was ist es? Ein unschuldiger Mensch unter Druck. Nun, diesem Mann müßte eine Chance gegeben werden.
Wenn ihr heute bereit seid, das Richtige zu tun, bin ich froh, euch sagen zu dürfen, dass es eine Freistadt gibt, eine Zufluchtsstätte, und das ist Jesus Christus. Wenn ihr das Verkehrte nicht tun wollt, obwohl der Feind hinter euch her ist, so gibt es die Möglichkeit des Entkommens, und dieses Entkommen ist in Jesus Christus. Es ist der Ort, zu dem ihr kommen und euren Dampf ablassen könnt. Wenn ihr gern sündigt und ihr wollt Gott nicht, dann wird der Feind euch irgendwo überwältigen. Ihr könnt nicht zu Christus kommen, weil ihr es nicht wollt.
Aber ein Mensch kann zu Christus kommen. Im Alten Testament musste ein Mensch aus freier Willensentscheidung zu dem Ort der Zuflucht kommen. So müßt ihr auch zu Christus kommen.
E-37 Noch etwas: ihr müßt zufrieden sein, wenn ihr euch dort befindet. Ihr könnt nicht jeden Tag weinen und sagen: „Ich möchte von hier heraus. Ich möchte hier weg,” sonst werdet ihr hinausgetan. Ihr müßt freiwillig dort bleiben wollen. Ihr müßt in der Stadt bleiben wollen.
Wenn ihr zu Christus gekommen seid, könnt ihr nicht zur Welt zurückschauen. Die Bibel sagt: „Wer seine Hand an den Pflug legt und zurückschaut, ist nicht tüchtig zum Reiche Gottes.” Das ist der Fehler vieler sogenannter Christen. Sie tun so als ob sie pflügen, doch sofern etwas Geringes aufkommt, werden sie ungehalten.
E-38 Vor einigen Tagen hatte ich ein solches Erlebnis, wie ihr bereits wißt. Ich danke euch für eure Gebete. Wenn ich jage und angle oder Zielscheiben schieße, wollte ich schon immer ein Weatherby Magnum Gewehr haben. Einige meiner Freunde hätten es mir gekauft, ich kenne die Leute. Wenn ich es nur erwähnt hätte, so hätten sie es mit Freuden gekauft. Zwei oder drei wollten es sogar tun. Doch ich konnte nicht einsehen, dass so viel Geld in ein Gewehr gesteckt werden soll, wo Missionare unterwegs sind ohne Schuhe. Das konnte ich nicht tun. Bruder Wilson gab Billy Paul eine kleine 257' Roberts. Und einer meiner Brüder, ein Freund, sagte: „Bruder Branham, das Gewehr kann aufgebohrt werden. Das kann ich günstig machen lassen.” Ich habe es ihm gestattet.
Er kam zurück, ich lud das Gewehr und schoß, und das Ding explodierte in meinen Händen. Der Lauf flog fast fünfzig Meter vor mich, und das Schloß flog hinter mich. Es ist ein Wunder, dass ich nicht zerrissen wurde. Es waren fünf bis sechs Tonnen Druck, denen ich ausgesetzt war.
Ein Arzt sagte: „Das Einzige, was ich weiß, ist, dass der gute Herr dort gegenwärtig war und dich, Seinen Knecht, beschützte.”
E-39 Die Sache, über die ich nachdenke, ist folgende: Wenn das ein Weatherby Gewehr gewesen wäre! Was war los? Es war ein Fehler im Gewehr. Es war zu groß aufgebohrt und deshalb lose. Das ist die Sache mit vielen von uns mit unserer Bekehrung: Wir sind zu weit aufgebohrt. Und…
Wenn das von Anbeginn ein Weatherby Gewehr gewesen wäre, von dem Stahl, der zu einem Lauf gegossen wird, so wäre die Bohrung entsprechend gewesen. Es wäre nicht explodiert. Doch weil man versuchte, etwas anderes daraus zu machen, das es in Wirklichkeit nicht war, deshalb explodierte es. Dasselbe wird jeder feststellen, der bezeugt, ein Christ zu sein und nicht den richtigen Anfang durch die Wiedergeburt macht. Irgendwo wird er explodieren. Denn es ist zu viel Druck vorhanden. Es wird nicht standhalten. Irgendwo wird er explodieren.
E-40 Menschen versuchen dies und jenes zu sagen. Sie ahmen einen Dienst nach, zu dem sie nicht gerufen wurden. Schlußendlich wird es explodieren. Ihr müßt von Gott dazu verordnet sein. Es muss Gott sein, der es bewirkte, nicht ein Händedruck oder eine gefühlsbetonte Geschichte, sondern es wird euch zuteil auf Grund des vergossenen Blutes Christi, durch euren Glauben an das, was Gott für euch durch Jesus Christus getan hat. Wenn das nicht so ist, werdet ihr irgendwo explodieren. Jemand wird euch auf die Zehen treten, und schon seid ihr weg. Seht, der Druck baut sich auf bis zu dem Punkt, wo die Explosion stattfindet.
E-41 Ein Mensch muss in dem Zufluchtsort bleiben wollen. Er kann nicht hineingehen, um zu beanstanden. Er muss dort bleiben wollen ohne Beanstandungen über etwas. Außerhalb kommt er um: innen ist er in Sicherheit.
Ich möchte jetzt denen etwas sagen, die noch nicht Christen sind. Ich bin vor über dreißig Jahren in diese Stadt der Zuflucht gekommen. Bruder, niemals habe ich hinausgehen wollen. O, ich bin in Christus hineingekommen. Alles, wonach ich Verlangen trug, fand ich hier. Ich möchte nicht hinausgehen. Ich bete täglich: O Gott, ich bin so froh, hier zu sein, laß mich hier bleiben, ich möchte niemals hinaus. Ich weiß, ER wird mich nie verlassen. Ich weiß, ER wird euch nie verlassen. Wenn der Druck so groß wird, dann ist ER euer Ausweg. Wir brauchen uns um nichts mehr zu sorgen.
Wenn ihr so unter Druck gesetzt seid und nicht mehr wißt, wohin ihr geht und was nach dem Tode geschehen wird und ihr dem Tode nahe seid, dann müßt ihr zu Christus, eurer Zufluchtsstätte kommen und den Druck herauslassen. Erledigt es ein für allemal. Ganz gleich, was geschieht, Christus ist unsere Zuflucht Wenn wir zu Ihm kommen, können wir den Druck ablassen. Erledigen es, ein für alle Mal.
E-42 Egal, was stattfindet, Christus ist unser Schutz. Und wenn wir zu ihm kommen, können wir lassen Sie den Druck ab. Ihr könnt aufhören euch darüber zu sorgen, was geschehen wird, wenn ihr sterbt; was mit der Ehefrau geschehen wird, was mit dem Ehemann geschehen wird, was mit den Kindern geschehen wird. Kommt zu Christus und laßt den Druck ab. ER hat uns alle Dinge gegeben. Alles ist für uns in Christus. Laßt den Druck einfach ab.
Es gibt nur einen Weg, kann dir es tun... Jemand könnte Ihnen eine Million Dollar geben; es wäre Druck aufbauen. Ihr mögt einer Gemeinde beitreten, doch der Druck wird immer größer. Die Methodisten werden euch sagen, dass sie richtig und die Baptisten verkehrt sind. Die Baptisten werden sagen, die anderen sind verkehrt und wir sind richtig. Das baut den Druck noch mehr auf, und ihr wißt nicht, wo ihr euren Stand einnehmen könnt. Doch wenn ihr zu Christus kommt, könnt ihr den Druck freigeben. Dann ist alles vorüber. Es ist erledigt.
E-43 Es ist Gottes vorbereitete Ort der Sicherheit. Gott sprach: „Der Name des Herrn ist ein mächtiges Schloß. Der Gerechte fluchtet dahin und wird beschirmt.” In der Zeit der Krankheit, wenn Krankheit Streiks, wenn der Arzt sagt: „Nichts kann mehr getan werden”, dann laßt nicht zu, dass der Druck aufgebaut wird, sondern gebt den Druck frei. Ruft euren Pastor, laßt euch mit Öl salben und über euch beten, und das Gebet wird dem Kranken helfen und der Herr wird ihn aufrichten. Entledigt euch des Druckes.
ER ist deine Zuflucht. Während ihr in dieser Zufluchtsstätte seid, habt ihr das Recht auf alles, was darin ist. Christus ist unsere Zuflucht. Alles, was ihr benötigt, ist in Ihm. Amen. In Krankheit nicht Druck aufbauen müssen; Druck ablassen.
E-44 Ihr sagt: „Ich frage mich, Bruder Branham.” Fragt euch überhaupt nicht, sondern laßt den Druck hinaus, übergebt euren Fall Gott und geht weiter, als wäre alles vorüber. Staut den Druck nicht an. Laßt ihn frei.
Nun, ihr sagt: „Ich bin so besorgt, Bruder Branham. Ich weiß einfach nicht mehr weiter.” Gebt den Druck frei! Amen! In der Stadt der Zuflucht hat ER eure Sorgen hinweg genommen. Ihr braucht sie nicht mehr zu haben. Werfet eure Sorgen auf Ihn, denn ER sorget für euch. Sorgt euch nicht um eure Sorgen. Das ist Seine Sache.
E-45 Vor einigen Jahren traf ich hier in einem zehn-Cent-Geschäft eine Frau. Sie war ungefähr sechzig Jahre alt, sah aber aus wie dreißig. Ich fragte: „Wie tust du das, Schwester?”
Sie sagte: „Bruder Branham, ich habe zwei Söhne. Sie sind Ärzte und sind älter als du.” Ganz ehrlich, sie sah nicht älter aus als dreißig. Sie sagte: „Weißt du was, als ich zu Christus kam, war ich ungefähr zwölf Jahre alt. Ich setzte mich hin und dachte darüber nach. Ich hatte andere Religionen gelesen, doch als ich das Wahre gefunden hatte, seit ich zu Christus kam und meine Sache, meine Seele und mein Alles Ihm übergab, seitdem habe ich mich niemals mehr gesorgt. ER hat verheißen, für all meine Schwierigkeiten zu sorgen. Wenn ER nicht groß genug ist, das zu tun, wie könnte ich es dann tun? Weshalb sollte ich mich noch darüber sorgen?” Das ist es.
Christus hat verheißen, alle eure Sorgen zu tragen. Werfet eure Sorgen auf Ihn. Worum seid ihr noch besorgt? Sorgen baut Druck auf, und Druck explodiert. Werft eure Sorgen auf Ihn. Hört auf zu sorgen. In Ordnung!
E-46 Ihr fragt: Wie tue ich das? Vertrauet Seiner Verheißung. ER hat verheißen, dass ER es tun wird, sogar in der Zeit des Todes, wenn der Engel des Todes in den Raum kommt. Ihr sagt: „O, Bruder Branham. Ich weiß, ich werde nervös sein.” O nein, ihr seid in dem Zufluchtsort. Nein, nein! Ihr wißt, dass ihr sterben müßt. Eines Tages müßt ihr gehen. Kommt in die Zufluchtsstätte. Fühlt euch geborgen. Das ist es. Ihr seid sicher, solange ihr in dem Zufluchtsort seid. Denkt daran, ER starb für euch, ER sorgt für euch. ER starb für euch.
Laßt uns die Sache noch einmal betrachten. Ihr sagt: „Bruder Branham, meinst du, wenn der Todesengel anklopft, dass es dich nicht unter Druck setzen wird?” Nicht im Geringsten! „Nun, wie machst du das?” Kommt in den Zufluchtsort! Das ist alles.
E-47 Ihr sagt: „Bruder Branham...” Einen Moment, bitte. Laßt uns Israel in Ägypten betrachten. Die Zeit kam, als Gott sagte: „Ich sende den Todesengel durch das Land und Ich werde den Ältesten jeder Familie töten lassen, es sei denn, das Blut ist an die Türpfosten gestrichen.” Die große Nacht des Passah kam. Hier war Israel, das Volk der Verheißung, das in das Land der Verheißung gehen sollte.
Es warst die Nacht des Passahfestes. Der Todesengel war im Lande. Das Geschrei war auf der Straße zu hören. Wir blicken; zwei große schwarze Flügel flattern die Straße hinunter. Meint ihr, Israel war in Aufregung? Nein!
Der Tod war an der Tür. Der Junge, der älteste Sohn der Familie, konnte zum Fenster hinausschauen und sich den großen schwarzen Engel ansehen. Er schaute und sprach: „Papa, liebst du mich?”
„Sicher, mein Sohn, liebe ich dich.”
„Papa, bin ich überhaupt dein Erstgeborener?”
„Jawohl, mein Sohn, du bist es.”
„Schau her, Papa, der Engel hat den Jungen dort geholt. Ich kannte ihn. Ich spielte mit ihm. O Papa, jetzt kommt er auf unser Haus zu.”
„Mein Sohn, siehst du die Türpfosten?” Halleluja!
„Papa, wird er mich holen?”
„Nein, mein Sohn. Dir kann er nichts antun.”
„Warum?”
„Das ist Seine Verheißung: ‚Wenn Ich das Blut sehe, werde Ich an euch vorübergehen!' Gehe hin, nimm dein Spielzeug und spiele, mein Sohn. Du brauchst dich nicht zu sorgen. Wir sind in der Zufluchtsstätte Gottes. Gib den Druck frei.”
E-48 Israel konnte in der Bibel lesen. Während die anderen Geschrei erhoben und der Druck über sie kam, war Israel völlig gelassen. Warum? Der Tod war vor der Tür, doch was machte es aus? Er konnte ihnen nichts antun.
Also, wenn der Tod kommt zu unserer Tür (Ehre sei Gott!), solange Gottes Forderung erfüllt und das Blut der Versöhnung an eure Herzensschwelle und -pfosten gestrichen wurde, was macht es dann aus? Es kann mich nicht hindern.
Wenn der Arzt sagt: „Morgen musst du sterben!”, was macht das aus? Das Blut ist an den Pfosten. Ihr müßt sowieso sterben. Aber wenn das Blut angewandt wurde, erwartet euch die Auferstehung. Amen!
E-49 Israel konnte ruhig sein. Kein Druck wurde in ihnen angespeichert, denn sie wußten, dass der Todesengel sie nicht treffen konnte. Sie waren unter dem Blut. Es war Gottes vorbereiteter Weg.
Nun sehet! Ihr fragt: „Kann ich dessen gewiß sein?” Seht, Christen, worum es geht. „Kann ich dessen sicher sein?” Darüber sprach ich letzten Sonntagabend.
Israel war das Volk der Verheißung des Bundes, das Volk Gottes. Ihnen wurde ein Land verheißen, das von Milch und Honig überfließt. Sie hatten dieses Land nie gesehen. Nicht einer von ihnen war je dort gewesen; sie wußten nichts über dieses Land. Doch es wurde ihnen verheißen. Sie kamen aus ihrer Sklaverei heraus durch die Hand Gottes und durch Seinen Propheten, wanderten einher und sagten, dass sie Pilger und Fremdlinge waren, die in ein Land hinein wollten, dass sie nie gesehen hatten. Keiner von ihnen hatte es je gesehen. Denkt daran! Sie kamen zur Grenze. Unter ihnen befand sich ein großer Kämpfer namens Josua. Josua bedeutet „Jehova-Retter.” Josua überquerte den Jordan und ging in das verheißene Land. Er kam mit dem Beweis zurück, dass es ein gutes Land sei. Sie brachten Weintrauben, die zwei Mann tragen mussten. Es war genauso, wie Gott es gesagt hatte. Es floß über von Milch und Honig. Das hätte Grund genug sein sollen, dass sich alle gefreut hätten. Warum? Josua hatte den Beweis des Landes, von dem niemand etwas wußte, mitgebracht. Doch Gott hatte es ihnen verheißen. Ihnen war ein Land verheißen, und sie waren auf dem Wege dorthin.
E-50 Die ganze Menschheit war in die Falle geraten, doch dann kam der Herr Jesus Christus auf diese Erde. Jesus bedeutet „Jahwe-Retter.” ER ging hinunter zu dem Todesjordan, überquerte den Jordan durch den Tod, ist auferstanden am Ostermorgen mit dem Beweis, dass der Mensch nach dem Tode leben kann. Halleluja! Der Tod ist nicht das Ende. Jesus hat bewiesen, dass der Mensch nach dem Tode leben kann.
ER stand vor ihnen und bezeugte es. Ehe ER wegging, sagte ER; „In Meines Vaters Hause sind viele Wohnungen. Wenn es nicht so wäre, hätte Ich es euch gesagt. Ich gehe hin, euch die Stätte zu bereiten. Dann komme Ich wieder, um euch zu Mir zu nehmen, denn wo Ich bin, sollt auch ihr sein.” Zunächst starb ER. Sonne, Mond und Sterne schämten sich, verloren den Schein. ER starb, ein römischer Soldat stach in Sein Herz; Blut und Wasser floß hervor. ER starb, wurde ins Grab gelegt wie jeder andere Mensch. Seine Seele ging zur Hölle, wie die Bibel es sagt. Aber am Ostermorgen kam ER von den Toten hervor. Das Grab und die Hölle lagen hinter Ihm. ER sprach: „ICH bin es. ICH war tot und lebe in alle Ewigkeit und habe die Schlüssel des Todes und der Hölle. Ich bin ein Mann.”
Sie meinten: „ER sei ein Geist.”
Sagte: „Gib mir ein Fisch-Sandwich.” Und ER aß Fisch und Brot. Als Mensch war ER gestorben und in das Land gegangen. ER kam zurück mit dem Beweis, dass ein Mensch nach dem Tode leben kann. Was hat der Tod mit uns zu schaffen? Amen! Gebt den Druck frei!
E-51 Nicht nur das, ER hat uns die Verheißung gegeben. Was war es? ER hat uns das Unterpfand für unser Erbe gegeben. ER sagte: „Dieses soll jedem Gläubigen als Beweis gegeben werden.” Die einen gehen hier im Unglauben dahin. Ihr glaubt das Wort nicht. Ihr wandelt in der Sünde und den Dingen dieser Welt. Doch ER sprach: „Wer an Mich glaubt, hat das ewige Leben, ein Leben, das nicht sterben kann.”
Erkennet jetzt: wenn wir Seinen Geist empfangen, wir, die wir tot waren in Sünden und Übertretungen, so schenkt ER uns die Wiedergeburt, das neue Leben. Was tat ER? Wir sind mit Jesus gestorben und begraben. Im Geiste sind wir auferstanden von den weltlichen Dingen und in himmlische Örter versetzt. Heute Abend sitzen wir zusammen im himmlischen Örtern in Christus Jesus.
E-52 Wieviele Christen hier lieben noch immer die Welt? Wenn ihr es tut, seid ihr kein Christ. Ihr bekennt euch zwar zum Christentum, aber besitzt es nicht, denn wenn ein Mensch einmal von Christus geschmeckt hat, ist er den Dingen dieser Welt tot. In keiner Weise hat er irgendein Verlangen dahin zurückzugehen.
Was bewirkt es? Das Leben! Paulus sagte: „Nun lebe nicht mehr ich, wie ich einst lebte. Zwar lebe ich, doch Christus lebt in mir.” Warum? Er wurde erhoben von der Sünde dieser Welt. Auch wir selbst können zurückschauen und sehen, worin wir einst lebten. Jetzt leben wir anders. Was ist es? Es ist die Gewißheit, dass wir uns selbst gestorben sind und unser Leben durch Christus in Gott verborgen ist und wir versiegelt wurden mit dem Heiligen Geist und über die Dinge dieser Welt erhoben sind. So sind wir zum Leben gekommen mit demselben Beweis, mit dem ER zurückgekommen ist und es uns unter Beweis stellte.
E-53 Das Land ist herrlich. Dies ist erst die Anzahlung. Dies ist das Angeld auf unser Heil. Es ist das Anzahlungsgeld für den Vertrag Gottes. „Wer Mein Wort hört und dem glaubt, der Mich gesandt hat, der hat das ewige Leben und kommt nicht ins Gericht, sondern ist aus dem Tode ins Leben hinübergegangen.” Laß den Druck ab, Bruder. Amen! Begreift ihr es?
Seht, Elia, der große Prophet, ein Sinnbild auf Christus. Elisa, ein Sinnbild auf die Gemeinde, mit dem zweifachen Maß des Geistes, das auf ihn kam. Eines Tages ging er zum Jordan - ein Sinnbild auf diese Zeit, diese Regierung und was sie jetzt haben, Ahab, Isebel usw. Ihr gedenkt meiner Predigt darüber. Seht, Elisa folgte Elia aus einem Grunde. Amen. Wohin hat er ihn genommen? - zum Jordan, über Bethel, Jericho und an der Prophetenschule vorbei. In der gleichen Weise führt ER euch durch Rechtfertigung, Heiligung, sich selbst sterbend, um das Leben zu empfangen. Nicht eine Denomination, nicht eine Glaubenssatzung, ihr selbst müßt sterben, damit ihr wiedergeboren werden könnt.
E-54 Elia schlug das Wasser, überquerte den Jordan. Elisa folgte ihm. Als Elisa zur andern Seite des Landes zurückkehrte, hatte er ein doppeltes Maß. Heute folgen wir Jesus in Seinen Tod, durch die Taufe werden wir mit Ihm begraben und zu einem neuen Leben auferweckt. Wir glauben Ihm. Wir sind den Dingen der Welt gestorben, haben bekannt, dass wir nichts sind. Getauft in Seinem Namen, dadurch mit Ihm begraben und zu einem neuen Leben mit Ihm auferstanden. Unser Geist ist erhoben über die Dinge der Welt. So Sind wir in Christus. Jetzt haben wir einen Teil.
Wenn wir die Todeslinie überschritten und den Jordan überquert haben, werden wir ein doppeltes Maß haben. Schon in diesem Leibe haben wir durch den Geist das Angeld, den Heiligen Geist, der nicht sterben kann, weil ER ein Teil Gottes ist. Und die Körper in der wir leben... [Der Herr sprach:] „Wer Mein Fleisch ißt und Mein Blut trinkt, hat ewiges Leben. Ich werde ihn am letzten Tage auferwecken.” Amen! Laßt den Dampf ab.
E-55 Was macht es aus, wenn Atombomben zuschlagen werden. Mögen sie nur tun was sie wollen. Wir wissen doch eines: dass wir ewiges Leben durch Jesus Christus, unseren Herrn, empfangen haben. Was geben wir noch um das, was die Welt sagt. Was geben wir um den Druck? Es macht uns nichts aus, denn wir können den Dampf ablassen.
Kommen Sie, wo die Tautropfen der Gnade sind hell.
Leuchten überall um uns bei Tag und bei Nacht,
Jesus das Licht der Welt.
Mit unseren Häuptern gebeugt, laßt uns unsere Hände erheben.
Wir werden in dem Licht, schönes Licht zu wandeln;
Kommen Sie, wo die Tautropfen der Gnade sind hell.
Leuchten überall um uns bei Tag und bei Nacht,
Jesus das Licht der Welt.
E-56 Unser himmlischer Vater, Satan hat den Kampf verloren. Übt nur Geduld. Laßt den Dampf nicht anstauen. Ich stand hier und predigte, dass wir den Dampf ablassen sollen, und Satan versuchte mich von der Plattform herunterzubringen, damit kein Altarruf stattfinden kann. Herr, in meinem Herzen brannte es: „Jemand befindet sich dort. Jemand sucht diesen Felsen.” Wir danken Dir, Vater, für den Sieg. Als der letzte zum Altar gegangen ist, ging das Licht an Er erkannte, dass er verloren ist, und Satan musste den Kampf aufgeben.
Heute Abend stehen hier fünf kostbare Seelen - die Zahl der Gnade. Fünf: J-e-s-u-s, G-1-a-u-b-e, G-n-a-d-e. O Gott, Du bist Gott. Du kannst nicht versagen. Du hast immer Recht.
E-57 Ich stehe hier auf der Seite und schaue herab. Hier ist Schwester Wilsons Tochter. Ich kannte sie schon als kleines Mädchen. Ich kann mich daran erinnern, als Du sie riefst. Ich erinnere mich an den Abend in New Market vor vielen Jahren. Ich denke daran, Herr.
Neben ihr steht eine Dame aus New York, um mit uns zu pilgern.
Hier steht ein junger Mann und eine junge Frau an diesem Wendepunkt, während in der Welt unmoralische Tänze und dergleichen vor sich gehen. Sie sind gekommen, um den Felsen zu suchen.
Am Ende des Altars steht ein junger Mann, seine Hände sind erhoben. Er möchte den Felsen finden. Jesus, Du bist dieser Fels und Du hast gesagt: „Wo immer zwei oder drei in Meinem Namen versammelt sind, da bin ICH mitten unter ihnen.” Der Felsen befindet sich hier.
E-58 Es mag alles befremdend aussehen, Vater, so einfach. Du machst alles so einfach, dass wir es nicht verfehlen können. Als sie von ihrem Sitzplatz aufgestanden sind und der Einladung gefolgt sind, versuchte Satan, sie zurückzuhalten, doch er hat verloren. Nun, als Dein Knecht lege ich ihnen die Hände auf und spreche Deinen Segen über sie aus. O Gott, möge er folgen, denn sie möchten aufrichtig und ehrlich Deinem Geiste folgen. Ich tue das gleiche.
Ich bitte, dass die Seele meiner Schwester nicht verlorengehe und dass ihr Verlangen, das ewige Leben zu empfangen, ihr gewährt wird im Namen Jesu Christi.
E-59 Ich lege meiner Schwester die Hände auf in dem Bewußtsein, dass sie durch viele Trübsale gegangen ist. Ich weiß, sie betet für ihren lieben Jungen. Ich weiß, dass dem Vater, während er sein Opfer brachte, Tränen die Wangen herabliefen. Als wir heute Morgen beteten, übergab er den Jungen dem Herrn. Diese Eltern lieben ihr Kind. O Gott, sie suchen einen Ort, wo sie den Dampf herauslassen können, wissend, dass alles recht ausgehen wird. Vater, wir haben es Dir hingelegt. Du wirst es gewähren, wir fürchten uns nicht. Schenke Du ihr jetzt die Gewißheit, Vater. Wir bitten es im Namen Jesus.
E-60 Vater, dieser junge Mann und diese junge Frau kommen zusammen, dass ich ihnen die Hände auflege. Sie kommen, um den Dampf ablassen zu können. Dieses hübsche junge Paar. Wir wissen, dass sie ein Köder für den Teufel wären, wenn er sie nur gebrauchen könnte. Doch sie sind wie ein Brand aus dem Feuer herausgerissen. Sie kommen, Herr, weil sie einen Zufluchtsort finden möchten. Sie möchten dahin kommen, wo sie den Dampf, den Druck, ablassen und stille vor Gott werden können, wissend, dass ER Gott ist. Ich bitte, Vater, dass Du ihnen gerade jetzt die selige Gewißheit geben möchtest. Mögen alle Schuppen von ihnen gerissen werden.
E-61 Dieser junge Mann, Herr, der hier mit erhobenen Händen steht, ist der letzte. Sobald er aufstand um zu kommen, gingen die Lichter an. Diese Anzahl hast Du gerufen. „Alle, die der Vater Mir gegeben hat, werden kommen.” Alles, was wir tun können, ist, an dem Wort festhalten. Die der Vater zum Leben bestimmt hat, werden folgen. Und jetzt ist er gekommen. Er möchte den Fels finden, Herr, damit er sich eine kleine Weile ausruhen kann. Ich bitte, oh Gott, dass Du ihn jetzt in die Felsspalte hineinbringen möchtest.
E-62 Möge jede Fessel zerbrechen. Möge alles, was gegen euch war und euch behinderte, jetzt von euch abfallen. Möge der Zorn oder was immer es ist, das Temperament, die Sorge, der Zweifel, die Sünde, die euch beschleicht, euch verlassen. Herr, als Dein Knecht und ihr Bruder trete ich fürbittend für sie ein als einer, der zwischen den Lebenden und den Toten steht. O Gott, ich stelle den Anspruch für ihre Seelen. Ich beanspruche ihren Sieg im Gehorsam, in diesem Altarruf. Wir wissen, Satan versuchte es aufzuhalten, doch ich stelle jetzt den Anspruch auf sie als Dein Knecht. Ich übergebe sie Dir, Herr Jesus, als Siegeslohn Deiner Gnade, als Siegeslohn der Gegenwart des Heiligen Geistes, der sie heute abend unter verschiedenen Umständen gerufen und zu dem Felsen gebracht hat. Mögen sie jetzt den Druck freigeben und wissen, dass Jesus gesagt hat: „Niemand kann zu Mir kommen, bis er gerufen wird Und alle, die kommen, denen werde Ich das ewige Leben geben und sie am letzten Tage auferwecken.” Es ist geschehen, Herr. Ich übergebe sie Dir jetzt im Namen Jesu Christi. Amen.
E-63 Gott segne euch, während ihr dort steht. Wenn ihr auf euren Sitzplatz zurückgeht, so wißt, dass all euer Begehren und was euch beschlichen hat und die Dinge, die verkehrt waren, unter dem Blute sind. Es ist vollbracht. Glaubt ihr es? Glaubt ihr es wirklich? Glaubst du es wirklich, Bruder? Glaubst du es, Schwester? Glaubt ihr es alle? Dann soll es sein. Es ist geschehen. Es ist schon Vergangenheit.
Gott segne euch und gebe euch das beste in diesem Leben und das ewige Leben, welches ihr schon besitzt. Ihr seid über die Sünde erhoben. Die Sünde ist unter euren Füßen. Was würde es mir nützen, hier zu stehen und euch etwas sagen, das nicht stimmt Ich würde als Betrüger betrachtet am Ende meines Weges. Ihr habt das ewige Leben empfangen, weil ihr an den Herrn Jesus Christus glaubt. Legt jetzt jede Sünde beiseite. Werft jede Fessel ab. Gehet frei aus. Laßt den Dampf ab. Ihr seid Christen. Ihr wurdet über die Sünde erhoben und habt das Angeld für euer ewiges Heil empfangen, denn Christus hat euch angenommen.
E-64 Hat ER nicht gesagt: „Niemand kann zu Mir kommen, es sei denn, Mein Vater ziehet ihn zuerst. Und wer zu Mir kommt, den werde Ich nicht hinausstoßen, sondern ihm das ewige Leben geben und ihn am letzten Tage auferwecken!”? Dann ist es erledigt. Amen. Es ist alles vorüber. Gott segne euch jetzt und sei euch gnädig. Liebt ihr Ihn alle'?

Wie viele von euch empfinden, dass der Druck euch verlassen hat?
Ich habe gefunden den Hafen der Ruh',
ich bin nun erlöst und befreit.
Ob ringsum es stürmt, in des Heilandes Hand,
da ruh' ich in Ewigkeit.
E-65 Wie es in der Geschichte von Charles Wesley heißt, als er sich in seinem Ausflugsort am See befand. Er hatte eine kleine Hütte und las. Der Herr hatte ihn dorthin geführt. Und während er studierte, wirkte Gott an ihm und gab ihm einen Gesang. Zunächst konnte er gar nicht beginnen. Doch dann begann er etwas, und die Inspiration verließ ihn. Er begab sich an den Strand, hörte den Wellen zu und meinte, eine Inspiration zu finden in dem Geräusch der Wellen. Plötzlich erhob sich ein Sturm. Nichts geschieht durch Zufall, alles ist von Gott bestimmt. Ganz gleich, was geschieht, alles dient uns zum Besten.
E-66 Er eilte in seine kleine Hütte, als die Winde wehten. Er dachte: „Ich werde vom Ufer gefegt, ehe ich dort ankomme.” Er zog seinen Mantel am Kragen hoch und fing an zu laufen. Etwas traf ihn an der Brust. Er schaute sich um. Es war ein kleiner Sperling, der Zuflucht suchte. Er hielt den Vogel an sich, bis der Sturm vorüber war und die Sonne herauskam, setzte ihn dann auf seinen Finger und ließ ihn fliegen. Danach traf ihn die Inspiration und er schrieb den Gesang:
Fels des Heils, geöffnet mir,
birg mich, ew'ger Hort, in Dir...
O, das mag ich. Fels des Heils in einem ermüdenden Land. Eine Unterkunft in der Zeit des Sturmes. O Fels des Heils, birg mich in Dir! Verberge mich, o Fels des Heils, der für mich geschlagen wurde.
E-67 Die großen Dichter der Gesänge, an denen wir uns noch heute erfreuen! Ihr fragt: „Sind die Lieder inspiriert?” Jesus sprach davon, als ER auf Erden war und bezog sich auf die Psalmen: „Steht nicht in den Psalmen geschrieben? Hat David nicht dies oder jenes darin gesagt?” Natürlich sind sie inspiriert wie das Predigen oder etwas anderes inspiriert ist.
Ich bin so froh, eine Zuflucht zu haben. Eine andere Zuflucht kenne ich nicht.
Meine Hoffnung ist gegründet
auf Jesu Blut und Gerechtigkeit;
Wenn alles um mich herum vergeht,
Dann bleibt Er doch meine Hoffnung und Fels,
auf Christus, dem standhaften Felsen, ich verbleibe,
denn alles andere ist sinkender Sand.
Was immer es auch sein mag.
Gott segne euch und euren Hirten. Satan versuchte, das Licht auszumachen, doch Gott hat den Sieg davongetragen.
E-1 Thank you, Brother Ruddell. I am so happy to know I got a son in the Gospel. Yeah? Well, fine; that's good. Yes, I certainly appreciate Brother Ruddell. And I--I believe Paul once had a son called Timothy. He called him his son in the Gospel.

E-2 And if I'm not sure, is this Flossy Ford, used to be? My goodness. Flossy, I... Been a long time. Yes, it has. I remember when I was a boy; her brother Lloyd and I used to run around together. And she used to bake big cakes, you know, and we'd come in up there and eat till we was just about sick. You know.

E-3 I remember one time they ask me come up, Lloyd did, and we... Flossy had baked... She was just a kid then. She baked a big cake, and--and we just eat till we couldn't eat. And I thought, "Now, I'm going to stay all night with Lloyd. Kinda got to getting dark, you know, and I--I made out I just had to go home then. So I--I took off and run down the road and scared to death trying to go home.

E-4 And now, I remember her father. Is your mother's still living, I suppose? Well, that's fine. And been a lot of water went down that river since them days. Yes. Here we are now both middle-aged people, grandparents, and... Well, but there's a land where we'll never grow old. See? I'm so glad to know, Flossy, that you're looking for that land and assurance of finding it.

E-5 And Jim, how is Jim, is he... Yes, I remember that. Jim, that's her husband, and I remember him well. And I knowed a few of the children; we kinda... By that time I'd got on the field when they were married and their children growing up. And we kinda got away, you know, from one another.

E-6 I see Brother Lloyd once in a while, holler at him down on the street. They cooked me a many a meal, and I've--like a real brother and sister.

E-7 Now, I'm so glad to see that Brother Ruddell's first push was here in this place to convert--starting out converting a roadhouse into the house of the Lord. That's very fine.

E-8 And of course, you know, if sometimes if you can foresee anything, you know... And--and then that makes it better. So we could foresee there was something in this boy. And he was bashful; his dad and I there used to work together years ago. And I knowed his daddy was a up-and-at-it and a go-getter, so why shouldn't that be in the boy? I knowed he had a darling mother. So he was--he was sired right, so there had to be something good behind him. You see? And that longing in his heart to serve the Lord... When the deep calls to the deep, there's got to be a deep to respond to that call. And I'm so glad to see Brother Ruddell going on.

E-9 This wonderful bunch of people up here... And it's a grand privilege to me tonight to come up here and to speak to this bunch of saints that are sojourning here. We are not... This is not our abiding place, you know. We're pilgrims. We're--we are--we're not at home.

E-10 And I remember, Sister Ruddell, how you'd come with him and set there. And he'd hold his head down. And you had a lot of confidence. They sure did; she believed he'd--he'd preach the Gospel. And so with a good wife like that, and a father and mother and all praying for him, something had to happen, Brother Ruddell. So here it is. And I pray, Brother Ruddell, that this will just be a--a standing place for you, where you can spring to the highest of heights for the glory of the Gospel.

E-11 I know that Brother and Sister Ruddell, Max there, would be real happy about it tonight. How I'd like to see Billy Paul stand in the pulpit. And I hope to live someday to see Joseph standing in the pulpit. And that's mighty fine.–E-
12 Our toil's and troubles then that we have raising young children through the teenage and things, that makes us feel fine then. Look back and see the gray in your daddy's hair and things, you remember, some of your--some of your wrong doings put them there. And that--that's right.

E-13 Well, it's good to be here, and I'm just a little bit hoarse. I've been preaching... Brother Gene Goad and I took little trip yesterday and went down. And the fish was biting. And--and so we had a good time, come in late. And we kinda got out on the water and a little bit of cold, but I trust you bear with me.

E-14 Now, we are fixing to leave on a summer's campaign, about ninety day campaign. Expect to be back again in last of August, first of September. And we're going over now... This--this week I begin in Green Bay, Michigan, come back to Chicago for Sunday afternoon at the high school at a convention. I'm going to speak the original convention of the Christian Business Men in Green Bay, Wisconsin. And then from there to Chicago, and then Monday I'm in Chicago at a--a conventional meeting, a missionary rally for Brother Joseph Boze. And then return home to go up to South--Southern Pines, North Carolina, and down into South Carolina, and over to the Cow Palace at South Gate, Los Angeles. Got forty some odd oneness churches sponsoring that meeting. It's first time the oneness ever sponsored my meeting.

E-15 Then from on--on up to California through Oregon, on in to Canada, and from there in to Anchorage, Alaska, and then back again this fall. Where Brother Joseph Boze is going to Kenya, Tanganyika, Urban, and Africa, South Africa to set up meetings for later on in the fall.

E-16 Now, to say I have a leading to go to any of these places, I do not, but I feel that it ought to be sowing seed somewhere, doing whatever I can for the Kingdom.

E-17 And now, let us just bow our heads again for another word of prayer, not that we haven't been prayed for, but I'd just like to ask the Lord to help me here now that--would provide some words for you.

E-18 Our heavenly Father, we are now approaching Thy throne of grace in the Name of the Lord Jesus, Who has give us the permission and bid us to come, and we would be granted the things that we ask for as we approached. Now, we would not ask at all to stand in Your judgment, but we want to stand at the mercy seat so that we can obtain mercy, confessing that we are wrong and there's no soundness in us. But we present ourselves, Lord, nothing we can offer, just the prayer of our Lord Jesus and the bidding that He said this: "He that heareth My words and believeth on Him that sent Me has Everlasting Life and shall not come to the judgment, but's passed from death to Life." We believe that. He told us to come, ask anything in His Name, it would be granted. We believe that.

E-19 Upon the basis of our faith, we come asking that You bless this church and our gracious brother, Brother Ruddell, and his family, and all the families that's represented here.

E-20 As I look over and see Mrs. Morris here tonight and to think of the days gone by... And God, as I said to her, lots of water's went down the river and many dangers, toils, and snares. You've already brought us through them, Lord, and our trust is in You that we go to the end of the road in Thee.

E-21 Bless this place. Place Your Name in here, Lord, and give to them the very best that's 'lotted for this place. May evil, as the brother prayed tonight here... This young man prayed that You'd take away all hindrances. Grant it, Lord. Answer his prayer.

E-22Heal the sick that's among us. Give salvation to the soul of those that's hungering and thirsting for righteousness. And now, Lord, sanctify the voice and the--and the effort of Your unprofitable servant. And bless Thy Word, and may It not return void; but be--and may It be so that It'll accomplish that which It is purposed for. May the Holy Spirit take the things of God tonight and encourage our hearts from the greatest to the least. In the Name of Jesus Christ we ask it. Amen.

E-23 Now, this morning I preached a long time. And I didn't know about preaching; I was just kinda teaching a Sunday school lesson. And one day I taught six hours. Won't be that bad tonight, I'm sure...

E-24 But I just got a little text here that I would like to read some Scripture, because I know His words won't fail. Mine's may-mine may do it. And I'm going to try to keep my word right with His and take His Word--take my word to build a context around His Word, as we use for a text.

E-25 I want to read two places tonight. I want to read in the Book of Proverbs in the 18th chapter and the 10th verse for one place. And another place, I want to read Isaiah 32:2. Now, in Proverbs 18:10:
The Name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous run into it, and are safe.

E-26 And in the Book of Isaiah, 32nd chapter, 1st and 2nd verses:
Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, a prince shall rule in judgment.
And a man shall be as a hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as a shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

E-27 And now for my text I want to use this as a text: "Let--Letting Off the Pressure." That's a odd text, "Letting off Pressure." I chose this, because that before coming to a meeting I always try to pray and to try to seek the Lord, not to stand before any congregation small or great, one to a million, would be to stand there not to be seen or to be heard, but to do something to glorify my Lord. Therefore, seeing the need of the people...

E-28 And I wouldn't come here to be heard, because I'm not much to listen to, bad voice, not an educated man, and never stay with my text, skip all over from Genesis to Revelations. And I'm--I'm not a--an eloquent speaker, but I do love the Lord. And I--I can't love Christ until first I love His people. See? I've got to love His people. So if I love His people, then I love Him.

E-29 And then, I want to be like He did. I want to--to make my objective the same objectives He had; and that was always trying to do good, to help somebody.

E-30 And seeing this day that we live in, and knowing that this church here has a grand pastor...

E-31 Now, I don't say that flattery; I say it from my heart. If I said anything different, I'd--I'd be a hypocrite. And I--I believe that this church has a pastor that would stand on Truth regardless of what come or went. I believe that. That's my confidence in my--my son. And I--I believe that. And I... And he's a--fearless as fearless can be. And you... I believe he's a honorable, holy man, sent from God with a ministry for this last day. And he preaches the same portion of the Word that I preach; that's from Genesis is to Revelation, just the way It's wrote. And I like that, no compromising, just stay right with the Word. And I like that.

E-32 But then I thought with a man like that, for me to walk in behind his pulpit, yet a young man, what could I say that would help his congregation; because that's why he wanted me to come up. He's a shepherd, and he's watching his sheep. And he would think maybe now, to kinda change around a little, there might be something to help his people. And he's interested in you; he's interested in your welfare. Day and night, he'll go anytime, anywhere, help do anything that he can. Well, that's--that's a real servant of God.

E-33 And as he said--he said he plagued me, or bothered me, or pestered me, or something... He doesn't do that. That makes me love him that much more, when he keeps asking, 'cause that--I love that, 'cause he's got confidence. It shows... He wouldn't bring me up before his sheep if I thought I was going to hurt them. Nope, no shepherd would do that, because he'd think I would do what was right. And it's a--he--it's a great privilege he pays me when he does ask me to come. And I like his--his objectives; that's hang on till it happens. That's a--a man of faith. And I like that.

E-34 So then I thought, "What would I speak to this congregation?" I thought, "Well, they're probably trained right in everything, no doubt." But there is a pressure on the people today. And that pressure has no limitation or any denominational lines; it has no age line; it has no respect of person. It's on young and old, good and bad; it's on everybody: pressure.

E-35 We are living in a neurotic age, nervous tension. Everybody's racing here and going there, and going nowhere. It's just at that kind of an age. And I know this church would be plagued with it as everywhere's plagued with it. Tabernacle's plagued with it, everywhere, the whole world.

E-36 It's a day of pressure. Hurry, hurry; hurry, hurry; hurry up and wait. Drive ninety miles an hour and then--to get home for supper and wait two hours till it gets ready. That's right. It's--it's the time. And in that rushing and speeding it gets you to a nervous tension; the wife say something a little contrary, you want to fly off: temper. Husband say something, you'll pat your foot and tell him to get in the room. See? "Well, now husband, I don't want no words with you; go out there."

E-37 "Wife, oh, I'm so nervous." See? Why? What's the matter? See?

E-38 All this together, this tension building up, then the results of it is doing something wrong and acting out of place. That's right. Now, it'll make the poor act that way; it'll make the middle class act that way; it'll make the rich act that way. It'll make the wrong act that way; it'll make the pretty good act that way; and it'll make the good act that way; because it's tension, steam built up. Got to blow it out somewhere. See? If you don't, you blow the boiler up.

E-39 Now, we find that. It builds up as the day goes. You talk to your boss if you're working, "Oh, so-and-so." And if you speak to the kiddie, "Come in here." "Mama, I'm..." See, there you are. It builds it up. Ooh, my. See? You feel like you're going to--head's going to come off. I know; I'm with it every day. So I--I know what it means. It builds up.

E-40 I was... Thought of this the other night. I was at a certain hospital. And our pastor, I thought he was sick; but he had just wore out: run, run, run, run till he just exhausted. And some of them said, called up... They called in the office down there and asked if I'd make his calls. Well, I'd been with business acts all day, and ministers from different places, and I said, "Yes."
Well, I went to make his calls. And I went to a certain hospital. And they give me a woman's name and a--and a number where she was at. I goes up to this room; I went over to the lady at... It--it was about fifteen, twenty minutes before receiving time for visitors, so I went over and told the lady I was a minister and would like to see certain, certain woman. She looked me in the face, and she was doing something. She turned around first, said, "So what do you want?"
And I said, "I would like to know where a certain, certain lady is in this ward."
She said, "I don't know."
I said, "Well, I was given a number, a certain place, and I thought I'd ask first."
Said, "Well, if you got a number, go see it."
"Thank you." I goes down there and said at the door of the ward, and I said, "Is there a lady in here named so-and-so?"
"No."
Well, I went back and looked at my ticket; that's where it said. So I goes back, and the lady was standing there; I said,
"That was the wrong number."
"What did you say her name was?" I said... Said, "She's not on this floor."
"Thank you." I said, "I'll go upstairs then."

E-41a So I goes up to the next room, and I went to the... First, there was a doctor setting at the desk, and I--setting there scratching his head. Said, "How do you do?" He just looked up, looked down. "Well," I thought, "I'd better leave him alone." So I went on down the row a little farther, and I found a lady at the desk, a nurse. I said, "Pardon me."
Said, "What do you want?"
And I said, "Is there a lady up here by a certain, certain name?"
And she said, "I don't know." And I--I said... She said...
I said, "I was supposed to have a--a room number 321--or 221." And I said, "I went to that room, and there was no one there. And the lady said, 'There's no one down here named that,' so said, 'maybe it was upstairs.'"
And she said, "Well then, why don't you go to 2--321 then."
I said, "Thank you." I goes down to 321 and I said--or 22--321, and I said, "Is there a lady in here named So-and-so?"
"No."
There was a lady laying there, said, "She was across the room, across the room over on--on the other, 31."
"Thank you, lady." I walked over; I said, "Is lady So-and-so here?"
"No, they moved her out; she's downstairs."

E-41b I thought--I thought, "My." I goes back downstairs again; I--I... And she--they--they give me the room number. And I went downstairs, and I looked all... I was afraid to go to that desk again, so I looked all up and down, trying to find that room number. And I--I looked; and couldn't find it.
They got little wings and things cut up in this hospital, so here come this doctor walking down with his stereoscopes in his hand and satchel. And I never did see a man was four foot tall and four foot wide, but he just about matched the... He was walking along there; I said, "Good evening, sir. Could you tell me where room number so-and-so was at?"
He said, "Up this way and out that way."
I said, "Thank you for your information."
That's the truth; he said, "Up this way and out that way."
And I said, "Thank you." I thought, "I haven't got anywhere yet."

E-42 I looked back, and there was a kind of a kind looking lady standing at the desk again. I walked over to her, and I said, "Good evening."
She said, "How do you do?"

E-43 I said, "Lady, I'm all confused." And I told her my story. I said, "There's a lady here somewhere that's going to surgery in the morning, and she's near death. I'm a minister, and our pastor up there couldn't make his calls, and they give me this number."
She said, "Just a moment, Brother Branham, I'll find out." She...
"Well, I thank--thank the Lord."
She laid down everything, and walked over there, and got... "Oh," she said, "yes, Brother Branham, she is in room so-and-so to your left, right there.

E-44 I said, "Thank you very much." I turned around and looked, and I thought, "That's it, letting off the steam."

E-45 Everybody... It's just becoming a--a neurotic age. Everybody's all built up, haven't got no time. And that builds up to a place that it breaks up things, it causes people to have hard feelings when they snap them off and--and say things you don't mean to say.

E-46 Now, everybody's guilty of it. I'm guilty; you're all guilty, We--we do things under pressure that we wouldn't do otherwise. So they's a--they's an excess pressure built up today. I believe, before I go any farther I might say this: I believe it's the enemy coming down and pressing. I believe it's the devil.

E-47 And we know the coming of the Lord is at hand, and the Bible said in the last days that the devil would go about like a roaring lion. And if he could get you under pressure, hurrying, running over something, you'll make decisions that you wouldn't make if you'd set down and think it over.

E-48 About three years ago I was on a hunting trip, and I had a Indian guide. And I--I hunt real fast. That's stuff--that's just me (You see?), one of them pressure builders.

E-49 So I--I was hunting with the Indian, and I jumped off the horse. And there was some elk up on the mountain, and I started around the bend. And the old Indian was about ten year's older than me; he was just a puffing coming behind me. I said, "Come on, Chief, come on."
Said, "Too fast too fast."
I thought, "Oh, well..." I said, "Come on."

E-50 I started, and he said, "Too fast." I slowed down next gear; "Too fast." And I got down to a walk, "Too fast."
Oh, my. I said, "Chief, the elk is up there."
He said, "Him stay there; he were born there."
I said, "I guess that's right."
"He stay there; he were born there." He said, "Preacher hunt too fast, scare all the game away." Said, "Do like Indian: walkum once, lookum nine times."

E-51 Well, I wonder what kind of a gear I'd have to get in to get down there. Where I was on a run up the mountain, he said, "Walkum once, then lookum nine times. Look all around over everything nine times before you make another step." Oh, my. But you see, he's in no hurry.

E-52 I thought of that. And my precious old mother that's in glory tonight... Someone said, "Why don't you wear a white flower today, meaning your mother's dead."

E-53 I said, "My mother's not dead; my mother's a-living. And then I'd wear a red one, and then people'd say, 'I thought your mother died?' So to keep from confusing them and building up more steam, I just left it all off." See? She's not dead; she's asleep. She's with Christ.

E-54 And then the nervous, neurotic age that we're living in... And you know, in all of this the doctors don't have the answer, 'cause they're plagued with it too. They don't have the answer. They don't know what to do.
You say, "Oh, doctor, I--I--I'm just about to blow my head; I don't know what to do. I..."
"Well," he'd say, "I am too. Well, there isn't nothing you can do." He'll give you a tranquilizer, and when that wears off, you're more nervous than you was in the first place, like a drunk man taking a extra drink to get over his drunkness. You see? So you--you can't do it. There's no answer; they don't have it.

E-55 But God has the answer. That's what we want to take--talk about. They have the answer; God's got the answer. He is the Answer. Christ is the Answer to every problem we got.

E-56 Now, we're going to talk about Him now. Now, in the Old Testament there was a time when a man could build up pressure way back there. And that was when he done something wrong. If he shed innocent blood, well then, he was on the run. Because as soon as that man that he killed--the wrong he did, that man he did the wrong to--some of his people would hunt him till he found him. And there he'd kill him. It was a tooth for a tooth and an eye for an eye. And, you see, a man had no place to stop.
If he done something accidentally, and of course, the people wouldn't believe it, well, he had to take off. Because just as soon as--as he did this, then the--the relatives of this man or woman, whoever it was, they started hunting him. And when they found him, it was tooth for tooth and eye for eye. That's the way they lived.

E-57 And so he couldn't stop nowhere. He was a fugitive. He didn't know what to do, and he was on the run. A very type of today, I think that's what's causing so much pressure; we're on the run. That's what's the matter with the world: knowing they're wrong, knowing the coming of the Lord is at hand, and the pressure's building up; and they're on the run. Roadhouse, gambling den, luxury, sin, immoral decay, anything to give vent; listen at television, dirty jokes, anything, give vent. They're on the run. There's something fixing to happen; they know it; and they're drinking themselves to death with pleasures and everything else: on the run.

E-58 They know there's something fixing to happen. The world speaks of it. We know that something's fixing to happen. This world may be blowed up before daylight. Every nation's under tension. Why?

E-59 One time I was in Africa, and I was watching a sheep feeding. It was a lamb, oh, a middle grown sheep. And the little fellow was eating very peaceful, and all at once he got restless. And he'd take a bite; he'd look around; he'd take a bite. When he was peaceful, I was watching him; he looked just as calm. I thought, "Isn't that peaceful out there? Look at that little fellow." The shepherd that had been watching them had gone to the corral, back: native, colored.

E-60 And I watched this little fellow, and after while he got nervous. I thought, "What's the matter with that little guy?" I was watching him, 'course, through binoculars. And he got so nervous; he'd look this way and that way. He started bleating; he didn't know what to do. "Well," I thought, "what made the little fellow get so excited all at once?"

E-61 Now, he was in a little pasture field. But way over behind there I noticed something raise up and let down again: about a half a mile from him, hid good in the weeds, a lion slipping up. And that little fellow, something in him was building to a place that he knowed there was danger somewhere; he couldn't see it. But the lion had smelled the sheep, and he had to get quick now to get him before the shepherd got him, got him out of the way.

E-62 So then watching him, tension had built. And in a distance this lion was slipping up real easy. Yet the--the sheep couldn't see the lion, but there's just something inside of him that told him that danger was at hand.

E-63 That's the way it is today, that there's something inside of people that lets them know something is fixing to happen. We know it. The Christian knows it. The world knows it. The drunkard knows it. The gambler knows it. The businessmen, the governments, the U.N., all of them know that something's fixing to happen. It's built a tension.

E-64 Women, mothers, just one cigarette after another... I watched them come to the school. They drive through our lane there till I have to watch my kids and my dog, on a twenty mile zone, seventy miles an hour, women taking their children to school, cigarette in their hand, hanging out one door, fussing with their kids, and down there and squeak the brakes and--or the wheels, or lay tires on the street... And here they come back again. The... I seen the wind blow four or five little kids plumb off the road the other day of some neurotic mother. Where's she going? What's the matter? Certain television program on, maybe comes on she wanted to see.

E-65 But that's it, tension. There's something causing it. They used to didn't do that. Something's approaching. Death and destruction is on its road here; it isn't very far away. Something is approaching.

E-66 Now, in the Old Testament God seeing in some of this trouble was accidentally done... So if you're innocent and not guilty, God makes a way for you.

E-67 Now, if a man killed a man just deliberately, premeditated, he was lost. He could not come to this place. But if he did it accidentally, he didn't mean to do it, then there was a city of refuge. One was at Ramoth-Gilead. And four places, I think, Joshua placed these cities of refuge.

E-68 Now, now, the people could come to this city of refuge. If accidentally he done something wrong, he didn't mean to. He would come to the city of refuge and go to the gate. The gatekeeper would ask him why he coming, what was his idea of coming. Then his case was pleaded. And when his case was pleaded at the gate and the man be found innocent, he did it not willfully, then the man was taken into the city as a place of refuge. Then the enemy could not get him. And if he lied and done wrong and come into the city of refuge, though he was holding to the altar horns, his enemy had the privilege and right to drag him from that altar and kill him. Yes, sir. Because he was guilty, premeditated, and he had to be punished.

E-69 Now, there was something went with that. 'Course that man would be nervous, my, maybe a dozen men behind you. Somewhere, every rock, every hill, every bush, the enemy, somebody was standing ready for him. He was nervous. And then when he once got into the city, he could let off the pressure. He was safe. He was all right, 'cause there's a provided place made for him, God's provided way for that innocent man not to be slain, but could be exempted from the slaying, because he did it accidentally.

E-70 Now, if he didn't mean to do it... Now, if he meant to do it, well, he--he had to stand the circumstances. But there's no chance for him if he did it willfully.

E-71 And there's two classes of people today. May I say this; there's men and women in the world today, Brother Ruddell, that really don't want to do these things they're doing. There's men and women in the world today that don't want to sin. I feel sorry for them. They don't want to do anything wrong, but they do it. They're drove to it. Now, there's a place for that person that wants to do right. There's a place to let off that pressure. It's true. But there's some that doesn't care.

E-72 The other day a Brother Hickerson got me a pass from the warden here of the federal prison in--at La Grange, Kentucky, to go in, go fishing. And I met a colored boy back there from Louisville, and he told me... I said, "A fine looking, intelligent man like you, what are you doing in here?"

E-73 He said, "Well," said, "Reverend, here's what it was." Said, "I... It's nobody's fault but mine." Said, "I--I--I once belonged to the Lord." His name was Bishop. He said, "They called me holy Bishop, because that I served the Lord." He said, "Me and my wife, we have--got a little girl." And said, "One time I just couldn't stand it, so I just went with the world, went away from the Lord." Said, "I had a Christian father and mother." And said, "I served four years overseas in Korea," how many battles he was in, citations and things. He said, "But out there the thing we done is just go to dances and so forth."

E-74 "I got mixed with the wrong crowd, and one day two boys come by and said, 'Bishop, we want to go up the Quaker Maid and get some groceries, will you run us up there?'" Said, "My wife had just called me to dinner. And I said..." Said, "She called me in there, said, 'Honey, don't you go with them; there's no good in them guys. We got to get away from them and back to church again.'" And he said, "Well," said, "'I said, I hate for them, the boys wants groceries,' said, 'I hate not to take them.'" Then he said, "'I'll let them have my car.' Said, 'Don't you do it; they'll tear it to pieces.' And said, 'Run them up there and then come back then.'"

E-75 Said, "I run them up there and stopped in the parking lot." And said, "I was setting there waiting, all at once the--the alarms went off and everything, and here come these boys each with pistols in their hand. And I shut the door. I said, 'You're not getting in here.'"
And one of them whacked him across the head, and jerked him back up, and throwed this gun and said, "You're not taking these..." throwed the gun in and said, "If you don't want a hole through you... And we'll throw you out here and take off."

E-76 He said, "You can't go nowhere. You're going to get caught. You boys tell them that I was free; I--I didn't mean this. I--I was setting here; I'm a innocent party." And about that time the police had them.

E-77 They pleaded the case, and he said, "I first thought evil of the prosecutor, because he said..." Here's the questions he said: "Is this your car?"
He said, "Yes, sir. But I..."

E-78 He said, "Answer my questions." Oh, brother, the devil has a way of doing it. He said, "Answer my question." Said, "Is this your car?"
He said, "Yes, sir."
"Is that your license number?"
"Yes, sir"'
He said, "Was you up there in that lot?"
He said, "Well, I tell you..."
He said, "Answer my questions."
He said, "Yes, sir."

E-79 He said, "There you are." And on circumstantial evidence they give him ten years--sent the other boys for life.

E-80 Now, he said, "See, brother, I just got in the wrong crowd. It's nobody to blame but me." And that's right. Now, he's got ten years to let off the pressure in. I prayed for him, Brother Wood there and I--we was setting out on the water--and took the boy by the hand and prayed for him out on the water, that God would give him a parole. And I'm still praying for him that God will.

E-81 What is it? Pressure, innocent, a man innocent, Now, that man should have a chance.

E-82 Now, if you want to do right, I'm so glad tonight to tell you that there is a City of refuge; that's Jesus Christ. If you don't want to do wrong, the enemy's after you, then there's a way of escape; and that escape is Jesus Christ. There's a place where you can come and let off the steam. But if you're--love to sin and you don't want God, then the enemy's going to overtake you somewhere. You have no... You can't come to Christ, because you don't want to.

E-83 And when this man comes to Christ, this place of Refuge... When a man come in in the Old Testament, the first thing, he had to come upon his own free will. And that's the way you have to come to Christ.

E-84 Another thing, you must be satisfied while you're there. You don't... You can't hang around every day crying, "I'd like to get out of here; I'd like to get out of here." They put you out. You must willfully want to stay. It must be that you must want to stay in that city.

E-85 And when you come to Christ, you can't look back to the world. The Bible said, "He that puts his hand on the plow and turns to look back's not worthy of plowing." Now, there's where so many so-called Christians make their mistake. See, they act like they're going to plow, but the first little thing comes along, they blow up about it.

E-86 The other day I had an experience of that, as you all know. And I thank you for your prayers. As I hunt, and fish, and shoot targets, and things, I've always wanted a Weatherby magnum rifle. Well, some of my friends would've bought it for me; I know people, if I'd just have mentioned it, they'd gladly done it. Frankly, two or three wanted to do it. But I couldn't see them put that much money in a rifle when I know missionaries ain't got shoes on their feet. I couldn't do that. And Brother Wilson give Billy Paul a little .257 Roberts. And a brother friend of mine said, "Brother Branham, Weatherby can bore that gun, I can have it done for a cheap price if you'll let me do it for you." Well, I let him do it.

E-87 Come back, put a shell in the gun, and went to shoot it, and the thing blowed up in my hands. And the barrel went almost to the fifty yard line, the bolt way back behind me. And it's a wonder it just didn't cut me half in two. There was about five or six tons of pressure that close to me.

E-88 One of the doctors said, "The only thing I know, that the good Lord was setting there to protect His servant."

E-89 Now, the thing that I'm thinking of, here's where it comes. If that would've been a Weatherby magnum to start with... What was the matter? There was a flaw in the rifle. The headspace was bored too loose. That's what's the matter with a lot of us in our conversion: our headspace is bored to loose. And--and...

E-90 Now, if that had been a Weatherby from the very beginning, from the very steel that was poured to make the barrel, it would been bored out and made a Weatherby magnum. It would not have blowed up. But because it was tried to be converted to something that it really wasn't, then it blowed up. And so will every man find the same thing that professes to be a Christian, that doesn't get the right start from the new birth. He'll blow up somewhere. There's too much pressure on it. It won't stand it. He'll find hisself blowed up somewhere.

E-91 People trying to take--impersonate somebody's ministry that hasn't been called to it, finally it's going to blow up. You've got to be ordained of God. It's got to be God, not some handshake, some sentimental story; but it's coming upon the basis of the shed Blood of Christ and your faith in what God did for you through Jesus Christ. If not, you're going to blow up somewhere. Somebody will step on your toes, and away you go. See? See, it's a pressure building up all the time, and soon it'll blow up.

E-92 The man must want to stay in the refuge. He can't go in there complaining. He must want to stay, no complainings about it. Outside he dies; inside he's safe.

E-93 Well, I want to say something to the people here if you're not a Christian. I come to this City of Refuge about thirty-one years ago. And, brother, I've never wanted to go out. Oh, I come into Christ. Everything that I longed for was in here. I don't want to go out. I pray daily, "Oh, God, I'm so happy here. Just let me stay." I never want to leave, and I know He'll never leave me. I know He'll never leave you. And the pressure gets great; if it does, then He is our Outlet. So we don't have to--to worry about it.

E-94 If you're all pressured up, and don't know where you're going, what's going to happen to you after death (and you know you're going to die sometime, you've got it to do), then the thing to come is come to Christ the Refuge and let off the pressure. Settle it once for all.

E-95 No matter what takes place, Christ is our Refuge. And when we come to Him, we can let off the pressure. You can quit worrying about, "Well, if I die, what's going to happen to me? What's going to happen to the wife. What's going to happen to the husband? What's going to happen to the children?" Just come to Christ and let off the pressure. No, He give us all things. All things are ours by Christ, so just let the pressure off.

E-96 The only one way you can do it... Somebody might give you a million dollars; it would build up pressure. You might join a church, and it'll still build up pressure, 'cause the Methodists will tell you they're right and Baptist's is wrong. And the Baptists say, "They're wrong and we're right." So it just builds up more pressure, 'cause you don't know where you're standing. But if you ever come to Christ, you can let off the pressure. 'Cause it's all over then; just settle it down.

E-97 God's provided Place of safety where God said, "The Name of the Lord is a mighty Tower, the righteous run into It and are safe." In a time of sickness, when sickness strikes, and the doctor says, "There's nothing else I can do about it," don't build up pressure; let off the pressure. Call your pastor; let him anoint you in oil and pray over you: Prayer of faith shall save the sick. Let off the pressure. See?

E-98 He's our Refuge. While you're in this Refuge, you've got a--you got right to anything that's in the Refuge. And Christ is our Refuge, and everything you have need of is in Him. Amen. In sickness don't build up pressure; let off pressure.

E-99 You say, "Well, I--I wonder, Brother Branham." You don't wonder; you just let the pressure off. Commit your case to God, and go on as if it was all over. Don't build up pressure; it lets off pressure.

E-100 "Well," you say, "I am so worried, Brother Branham, I just don't know." Let off the pressure. Amen. In the city of refuge He took your worry, so you--you don't have to have it. Cast your cares on Him, for He careth for you. Don't you worry about your cares; that's His business.

E-101 I met a woman here some years ago in a ten cents store. She was about sixty years old, looked about thirty years old. I said, "How do you do it, sister?"

E-102 She said, "Brother Branham, I've got two sons that's doctors that's older than you are." And honest-to-goodness, she--she didn't look over thirty years old. She said, "Here's what it was. When I come to Christ when I was about twelve years old... And I set down and thought about it. I studied other religions, but when I found the true one..." She said, "I come to Christ and took my case, my soul, my all to Him," and she said, "I've never had a worry since." Said, "Now, He promised to take care of all my troubles." And said, "If He's not big enough to do it, I know I'm not big enough to do it; so what's the use of me worrying about it." See? That's it.

E-103 Christ promised that He'd take all your cares. Cast your cares on Him. So what are you worrying about? Worry builds up pressure; pressure blows up. So just cast your cares on Him and quit worrying. All right.

E-104 Now... "Well," you say, "how do I do it?" Just trust His promise. He made a promise that He would do it. Even in the time of death when the death angel comes into the room... "Oh, Brother Branham, I know I'll be nervous." Oh, no. You're in the Refuge. No, no. You know you're going to die; you've got to go some way, so just get into the Refuge; feel safe. That's right. You're safe as long as you're in the refuge. You remember, He died for you. He cares you. He died for you.

E-105 Now, let's take a look. You say, "Brother Branham, you mean when the death angel's knocking at the door, you're still not to get steamed up?" No, not a bit. "Well, why do you do that?" Come to the Refuge; that's all.
"Well," you say, "Brother Branham..."

E-106 Well, now wait a minute. Let's take Israel down in Egypt. There come a time where God said, "I'm going to send the death angel through the land, and I'm going to take every one of the elders of this family unless there's blood on the door," that great night of the passover.

E-107 Now, here's Israel a promised people going to a promised land, and they...
It's the night of the passover. The death angel is in the land. And we hear a scream coming from down the street. We look out; two big black wings are waving down the street. You think Israel was all excited? No, sir.

E-108 Death was at the door. The little boy looked out the window; he was the oldest of the family. He sees that big, black angel. He looks and said, "Daddy, do you love me?"
"Sure, son, I love you."
"Well, daddy, am I not your firstborn?"
"Yes, you are, son."
"Looky there, daddy, that angel got that little boy. I knowed him; I played with him. Oh, daddy, here he comes towards the house."
"But, son, you see on that door post?" Hallelujah.
"Daddy, will he get me?"
"No, sir, son. He can't get you."
"Why?"

E-109 "That's His promise: 'When I see the blood, I'll pass over you.' Go back and get your toys and start playing, son. There's no need of worrying. We're in God's refuge. Let off the steam."

E-110 Israel could set back and read the Bible. While the rest of them was screaming and building up steam, Israel was relaxed. Why? Death right at the door, what difference did it make? It can't hurt them.

E-111 So when death comes to our door (Glory to God.), as long as God's requirement, the Blood's been placed on the lintel of my heart post, what difference does it make, it can't bother me.

E-112 The doctor says you're going to die tomorrow, what difference does it make, the Blood is on the post. You got to die anyhow. But if that Blood's been applied I've got a resurrection coming. Amen.

E-113 Israel could be calm, no building up steam for them, 'cause they knowed that the death angel couldn't strike them. They were under the blood. It was God's provided way.

E-114 Now, notice. Say, "Can I be assured of that?" Now, Christians, here we are. "Can I be assured of that?" I spoke on it last Sunday night.

E-115 Now, Israel was a promised, covenant people: God's people. They had been promised a land that was flowing, with milk and honey. So they... They'd never seen that land; not a one of them have ever been there; but they had a promise of it. See, they'd never been over there; they didn't know nothing about the land. But they were promised that land, and they come out of their slavery by the hand of God through His prophet, and was sojourning, professing that they were pilgrims and strangers, and was going to a land that they'd never seen, or none of them had ever seen it. Think of it. So they come close to the borderline. And there was a great warrior among them named Joshua. "Joshua" takes a--means "Jehovah Saviour." And Joshua went over the Jordan into the promised land and come back with the evidence that it was a good land. They brought a bunch of grapes that taken two men to pack. It was just exactly what God said it was. It was flowing with milk and honey. That should've made every one of them rejoice. Why? Joshua brought back the evidence of a land that nobody knowed nothing about that God had promised to give them. See? 'Cause they were--had a promise to a land, was on the road to it.

E-116 Now, one day the human race was in a trap, and there come Someone to the earth by the Name of Jesus Christ. "Jesus" means "Jehovah Saviour." And He went down to the Jordan of death, went over the Jordan in death, and rose up on Easter morning with the evidence that a man can live after he dies. Hallelujah. Death is not the end; Jesus proved it, that a man can live after he's died.

E-117 He stood before them, and He said... Before He left He said, "In My Father's house is many mansions. If it wasn't so, I would've told you. And I'll go and prepare a place. I'll go over and fix up a place, and return back, and receive you unto Myself, that where I am there ye may be also." And on Easter morning after He died till the moon and stars and sun was ashamed of themselves, He died till the Roman soldier pierced His heart with a--with a spear and water and blood had separated... He was the deadest of the dead. He went to the grave like any man did. His soul went to hell, as the Bible said. But on Easter morning He came back from death, hell, and the grave, and said, "I am He that was dead and I'm alive forevermore, and have the keys of death and hell. I'm a Man."
They said, "He's a spirit."
Said, "Give me a fish sandwich." And He eat fish and bread.

E-118 He was a Man that died, and went to the land, and returned back with the evidence that a man can live after death. What's death got to do with us? Amen. Let off the pressure.

E-119 Now, not only that, but He give us the promise. What was it? He give us the earnest of our inheritance. He said, "Now, to prove this to every believer, now, you're walking down here in unbelief. You don't believe the Word. You're walking in sin in the things of the world. But he that believeth on Me has Eternal Life, a Life that can't die."

E-120 Notice. Now, when we receive His Spirit, we who are once dead in sin and trespasses, He gives us new birth, new life. What does He do? He... We die and are buried in Jesus. We raise in the Spirit from the worldly things unto the heavenly things. And tonight we are setting together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

E-121 How many Christians in here still love the world? If you do, you're not a Christian. You are a professor of Christianity and not a possessor. For when a man once tastes of Christ, he's dead to the things of the world and by no means he has any desire to go back into that.

E-122 What does it do? "The life," Paul said, "that I once lived, I live no more. Yet I live; not me, but Christ in me." Why? He raised him from this low level of worldly sin up to a place that we ourselves can look back and see where we come from (Glory.), look back and see where we once lived. Now we live different, What is it? It's the assurance that we are dead and our lives are hid in Christ through God, and are sealed by the Holy Ghost, and raised above those things. Then we are alive with the same evidence that He come back with to prove to us.

E-123 The land is glorious and this is the down payment. This is the earnest of our salvation. It's the first money that holds the contract (Glory.), that holds God's contract. "He that heareth My words and believeth on Him that sent Me has Everlasting Life and shall not come into condemnation, but passed from death unto Life." Let off the pressure, brother. Yes, sir. Amen. Do you get it?

E-124 Looky, as Elijah that great prophet, a type of Christ, Elisha, the type of the Church, which a double portion of the Spirit come upon the prophet... He walked to the Jordan one day, a type of this day, this government and things they have now, Ahab, Jezebel and so forth, as you remember my Jezebel sermon. Notice, when Elisha following Elijah for a reason... Amen. Where did he take him? To Jordan, to Ramoth-Gilead, up to the school of prophets, and down to Jordan. That's the way He takes you, through justification, sanctification, and die out to receive Life (Amen.), not to a denomination or some creed, but to death to your spirit, so you can be borned again.

E-125 And Elisha... Elijah struck that water, walked across Jordan, and Elisha followed him. And when Elisha returned back to the land again on the other side, he come back with a double portion. Today we follow Jesus to His death, burial, and baptism--death, burial, and resurrection, rather, through baptism. We believe Him; we're die out to the things of the world, confess that we're nothing, baptized in His Name, buried with Him in baptism, raised with Him in resurrection. Our spirits live up above the things of the world; then we're in Christ. Now we got one portion.

E-126 When we return from across the death line of Jordan, we'll have another portion: the bodies that we now have, with spirits that we have, have the Earnest, the Holy Spirit that can't die because It's part of God. And the bodies that we live in... "He that eats My flesh and drinks My Blood has Everlasting Life, and I'll raise him up at the last day." Amen. Let off the steam.

E-127 What difference does it make atomic bombs or anything else strike. Let them do whatever they want to...?... [Bad spot in tape--Ed.]... of this one thing that we have Eternal Life through Jesus Christ our Lord. So what do we care about what the world's got to say. What do we care about pressure. Don't make any difference to us. Why? Because we can let off the steam. [Blank.spot.on.tape--Ed.]

E-129 Our heavenly Father, Satan has lost the battle. Just be patient. Don't build up a steam. Standing here preaching on letting off the steam, and then Satan thought he could run me from the pulpit, get me out of this altar call. No, Lord, in my heart there was something burning, saying, "There's somebody here. There's somebody hunting for that Rock." We thank You, Father, for the victory, and when that last person walked to the altar, the lights come on. He seen he'd lost so he might as well give up the battle.

E-130 Here stands tonight that number of grace, five precious souls: Five: J-e-s-u-s, f-a-i-t-h, grace, g-r-a-c-e. O God, You're God. You never fail; You're always right.

E-131 I'm looking, standing on the side, here's Sister Wilson's daughter. I can remember that little girl. I remember when You called her. I remember the night at New Market long years ago. Down there that night, I remember, Lord.

E-132 Here stands by her side a lady coming down from New York to sojourn with us.

E-133 Here stands a young man and a young woman just at this turning point when the world is out here doing all kinds of immoral dances and carrying on. They've walked, hunting for that Rock.

E-134 At the end of the altar stands a young fellow, his hands raised. He--he wants to find the Rock. Jesus, You are that Rock. And You said this: "Wherever two or three are gathered in My Name, I'll be in their midst." Then that Rock is right here.

E-135 It may seem very strange, Father, very simple. You make things so simple, so that we won't error. But because that they raised out of their seat and come on the invitation, because that Satan tried to keep them from doing it, every effort he could put forth he tried to do it, but he lost. Now, as Your servant I'm going to lay my hands upon them and pronounce Your blessings. And God, may it follow. Because that they are honest and sincere to follow the leading of the Spirit, I do the same.

E-136 Now, I ask that the soul of my sister shall never perish, that the desire of her heart for Eternal Life will be granted to her. Through Jesus Christ's Name.

E-137 I lay my hand upon my sister and know that many trials has beset her. I know she prays for her darling boy. I know the father, as the tears run down his cheeks tonight as he passed that little piece of tithing. And this morning when we prayed and committed the boy to the Lord God... This mother and father love the child. And, God, they want a place where they can just let off the steam and know that everything's all right. Father, we've committed it to You. You'll grant it; we have no fear. Give her that assurance just now, Father, through Jesus' Name I pray.

E-138 Father, this young man and young woman come together, so I lay my hands upon them. They come to let off the steam. A young couple like this, handsome young people, we know they're a very bait for the devil if he could only use them. But they've been snatched like a firebrand. They come, Lord, because they want to find that Shelter. They want to get to the place where they can just let off the steam, let off the pressure, and quieten themselves before God, and know that He is God. I pray, Father, that You'll give them that blessed assurance just now. May every little scale be beat off right now.

E-139 This young fellow here, Lord, that stands with his hands up, that very last one. And as soon as he rose to come up the lights come on. That was the number You wanted, that was Your calling. "All that the Father has give Me will come." The only thing we have to do is hold the Word there, and them the Father has ordained to Life will follow. And now, he comes. He wants to find that cleft, Lord, so he can set down and rest a little while. I pray, God, that You'll lead him to that cleft right now.

E-140 May every shackle be broken. May everything, every opposition that's bothered any of these. May it fall from them just now. May that little thing, little temper, little whatever it is, little temperamental, that little worry, that doubt, that little besetting sin, Lord, as their brother and Your servant I intercede for them as standing between the living and the dead. God, I claim their souls. I claim their victory in obedience to the altar call. And we know that Satan tried to stop it. But we claim them; I do now as Your servant, and I present them to Jesus Christ as the trophies of His grace, the trophies of the Presence of the Holy Spirit tonight Who called them under difficult conditions and brought them to the rock. May they let down the pressure now and know that Jesus said that, "No man can come until I have called him. And all that does come, I'll give them Eternal Life and raise them up at the last day. It's settled, Lord. I present them to You now in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

E-141 God bless you as you stand there. As you return to your seat, go and know that everything that you desired and every besetting sin and thing that was wrong is under the Blood. It's finished. Do you believe it? Do you believe it? Do you believe it, brother? Do you believe it, sister? Do you believe it? Then it's--it--not shall be, it has been done. That's right. It's a past tense.

E-142 God bless you. The very best in life and Eternal Life which you now possess... You have climbed then above sin. Sin is under your feet. What good would it do for me to stand here and tell you something wrong? I'd be counted a deceiver at the end of the road. See? You received Eternal Life, because you believed on the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, laying aside every sin and every shackle, go free; let off the steam. You're a Christian. You're raised above sin, and you got the Earnest of your eternal salvation, because Christ has received you.

E-143 Now, didn't He say, "No man can come to me except My Father draws him; and all that comes I will give Eternal Life and raise up at the last days"? Then it's settled. Amen. It's all over. God bless you now, be gracious to you. Do you love Him, out there?

E-144 How many feels the pressure all gone?
I've anchored my soul in a haven of rest,
I'll sail the wild seas no more;
The tempest may sweep o'er the wild stormy deep,
But in Jesus I'm safe evermore.

E-145 As the story of Charles Wesley on his retreat down by the seaside one day... He had a little shack; he was studying; the Lord led him down there. And he was studying; oh, God was moving on him for a song. And he couldn't--he couldn't get nothing to start on. He'd start on something; the inspiration would leave him. So he went walking down along the seashore, listening at the waves, and thought he could find some inspiration in the waves lapping. All at once a storm came up. Nothing happens by chance; everything is ordained of God. No matter what happens, all things are going to work together for good.

E-146 And he started towards his little cabin. When he did, the winds got to blowing. He thought, "Oh, I'll be blown off this--the--the shore before I get there. And be pulled up his coat and started to run, and something flew into his bosom. And he looked back, and it was a little sparrow come for refuge. He just held it in his bosom until the storm was over and the sun come out. He set this little fellow upon his finger, and he let him fly away. And he flew away, and then the--the inspiration struck him:
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;

E-147 Oh, I like that. See? Rock of Ages, that Rock in a weary land, a Shelter in the time of storm. That Rock in a weary land, Hide Thou me, Hide me, O Rock of Ages cleft for me.

E-148 The great inspired writers of the songs and the things that we so enjoy today... You say, "Are those songs inspired?" Jesus referred to them when He was here on earth, said, "Is not it written in the Psalms, David said certain-certain thing." Sure they're inspired. Just like preaching or anything else, it's inspired. I'm so glad that I have a Refuge. Other refuge have I none.

E-149 Yet my hopes is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' Blood and righteousness;
When all around my soul gives way,
Then He's all my hope and stay.
For on Christ the solid Rock, I stand;
All other grounds is sinking sand (no matter what it is).

E-150 God bless you, your pastor now, Brother Ruddell. I'm sorry Satan turned them lights out, but God got the victory anyhow. Amen.
